Prague Calling! Ballet, Bubbly & Bow-Tied Bunnies! (Post #1388)

Hello lovelies!

It's Wednesday, which means it's time for a brand new Pink Tutu Prague blog post! This week, I'm whisked away to the heart of Europe – Prague, the city of a hundred spires and an even more impressive amount of charm. My ballet boots have been tapping impatiently, the suitcase bursting with my most flamboyant tutus, and my little heart is skipping like a graceful arabesque just thinking about the delights this city holds.

Remember that time I told you about getting a beautiful new tutu from Madame Periwinkle in Derbyshire? Well, she's the one who suggested I come to Prague! It’s a place that buzzes with artistic energy, she explained, and has a ballet scene as enchanting as a moonlit waltz. I simply couldn’t resist!

So, imagine my delight when I stepped off the train (and let me tell you, nothing beats the thrill of travelling by train. It’s so much more elegant, don’t you think?) and felt a warm breeze whispering tales of Prague's beauty through my tulle.

But before we dive headfirst into all the delightful things I've already done, let’s talk about the inspiration for my journey, shall we? The gorgeous ballet "Giselle" is being performed at the magnificent National Theatre in Prague tonight, and you simply won’t believe how spectacular it is! It's my favourite ballet - the story is both captivating and heartbreaking, and it showcases such stunning choreography. Not to mention, it's an incredible excuse for me to dust off my most beautiful pink tutu!

Speaking of pink tutus, let’s have a little chat about why I adore them so much! They symbolise joy, femininity, and, of course, the graceful dance itself. Pink, after all, is the colour of ballerinas, a symbol of sweetness, and just generally lovely things.

As we stroll along Prague's cobblestone streets, let's dive deeper into the fascinating history of the tutu itself! Did you know that tutus didn't always have their iconic, airy shape? The very first tutus, worn during the late 1800s, were quite cumbersome! Imagine trying to dance in a stiff, floor-length skirt. Oh, the tragedy! Thankfully, Marie Taglioni (one of ballet's most renowned dancers) revolutionised the way ballerinas dressed by opting for a shorter skirt, paving the way for the iconic tutu as we know it! It was a true turning point for ballet, not only because it allowed for more freedom of movement but also because it truly empowered female dancers, allowing them to show off their elegance and strength.

And the evolution didn't stop there, darlings! Over the years, tutus evolved from romantic to classic, becoming lighter and more fluid as ballet itself progressed. Now, we have an astonishing array of tutu styles. There’s the classic Romantic tutu, featuring a layered design that embodies the elegance and delicate nature of the early ballet movement, and then there's the stunning “tutu à la Pagnol”, characterized by a series of multiple flounces or tiers, and offering an exciting combination of fullness and grace! It truly shows the creativity and artistry of designers, taking something as simple as a skirt and transforming it into a piece of art!

Isn’t it inspiring? We can learn a lot from the history of tutus, don’t you think? The story of their evolution reflects a story of how women embraced their power, their artistry, and ultimately, the beauty of ballet itself!

As I explore Prague, my head is brimming with inspiration and new ideas for the Pink Tutu project. I want to use my platform to celebrate women’s strength, grace and empowerment. Who says ballet can't be cool and inspiring?

Speaking of inspiration, I have to share the best discovery I've made this week. In the quaintest little boutique in Prague, I stumbled across the most stunning pair of ballet shoes - ivory with delicate lace trimming and a bow so charming it would melt even the coldest heart! It was like they were waiting for me, just a little wink of fate!

There are endless hidden treasures to find in Prague! From the quirky boutiques on winding cobblestone streets, I've already gathered enough colourful fashion delights to set my heart on fire, including a new floral-print top, a perfectly-fitted velvet skirt, and a pair of blush-pink shoes with glittery detail that are begging to twirl across Prague's most elegant streets.

Prague's architecture is simply breathtaking. Imagine strolling through Old Town Square, admiring the ornate clock tower, or losing yourself in the gothic beauty of St. Vitus Cathedral, with its stunning stained-glass windows shimmering like jewels under the winter sun! The air is filled with the gentle chime of church bells, inviting me to slow down, breathe in the beauty of it all, and maybe, just maybe, let my inner ballerina flow freely.

And speaking of freedom of movement, this week's blog post wouldn't be complete without a little glimpse into the bustling world of street performance in Prague! Imagine walking along the Charles Bridge and suddenly being enchanted by a young street dancer, graceful and spirited, as she twirls in the shadow of Prague Castle. Or watching the delicate hands of a busker playing the most heartfelt melody on an accordion. This city breathes music, art and beauty at every turn!

My heart leaps a little higher every time I witness a spontaneous performance - a testament to the raw, unbridled power of art to capture attention, uplift spirits and touch hearts.

I'm savoring every second in this vibrant city!

But before I dive headfirst into a bowl of delectable trdelník (a local pastry – I highly recommend it!), I have to share with you my biggest thrill this week!

You’ve all been wonderful in encouraging me to explore new avenues in my dancing journey. Remember I mentioned those ballet lessons I was thinking of trying? Well, this week I’m starting with my very first lesson! It’s a classic barre class, just as elegant and beautiful as I imagined. It's amazing to be surrounded by other passionate dancers - the studio is filled with laughter, the soft melody of the piano and the sweet aroma of warm wooden floors. It feels absolutely perfect.

So, there you have it! My Prague adventure is just beginning. More inspiring adventures are on the horizon. Don't forget to check back next Wednesday for more balletic delights straight from the charming cobblestones of Prague!

With love and lots of twirls, Emma
