Prague: Pink Tutu Travels, Post 1468! 🩰💕
Hey lovely readers! It’s your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, Emma, back from the magical city of Prague! My adventures continue, and this week, I’m whisking you away on a whirlwind tour of Czech culture, a splash of ballet and, of course, a whole lot of pink! 💕
A Tutu-tiful Journey by TrainThis week, I traded my dancing shoes for sensible boots and embarked on a delightful train journey from Derbyshire. The countryside whizzed past in a blur of green fields and charming villages, a perfect prelude to the city's captivating atmosphere. I’m always happiest when I can reach my destinations via train - there’s something wonderfully romantic about gliding across the land, admiring the view, and feeling like I'm in a scene from one of my favourite Jane Austen adaptations. 😉
*Outfit Update: *
Let’s talk fashion! This journey demanded an outfit that could handle a bit of travel and, of course, a splash of my signature pink! My choice: a sleek, dusty-rose midi dress adorned with delicate lace. To add a touch of drama, I threw on a vintage-inspired pink fur collar, making me feel like I'd just stepped out of a Parisian street scene. For the perfect finishing touch, I couldn't resist pairing it with my favourite pair of sparkling pink ballerina flats. ✨
A Bohemian Adventure: Prague UnveiledPrague - the City of a Hundred Spires, they call it. The moment I arrived, I felt an instant pull towards its history, charm, and that distinct bohemian vibe. Narrow, cobblestone streets, picturesque bridges, and grand Gothic architecture - Prague whispered tales of emperors, poets, and artists, making me feel like I had stepped into a storybook. 📚
The heart of the city is Prague Castle, an impressive monument to history. I marveled at the breathtaking views from the St. Vitus Cathedral, explored the Golden Lane with its charming miniature houses, and lost myself in the beauty of the Prague Castle gardens. It’s amazing to see how something so old can be so beautifully preserved and bursting with life.
A Pink-tinted Parisian Stroll:
Fashion is a big part of my Prague adventure, so of course, I headed straight for the shopping streets. I explored the trendy shops on Parizska Street, finding some treasures I simply couldn't resist – a dainty pink porcelain teacup, a beautifully embroidered silk scarf in shades of pink, and a vintage feather boa perfect for adding a touch of drama to my outfits! 😉 Parisian charm with a Prague twist - it was simply irresistible!
Ballet in the Heart of Europe:
But Prague’s charm is about more than just beautiful streets and delightful shops. I’m so excited to have been able to visit the National Theatre of Prague - what a fantastic experience!
The theater, itself, is an architectural masterpiece. The intricate details, the opulent grandeur of the foyer, and the plush, velvet-lined seats made me feel as if I had been transported back to a golden era. ✨
And the ballet… It was just pure magic. 💫 I can't tell you enough about the captivating storytelling, the sheer grace of the dancers, and the technical prowess displayed on stage. From the delicate pointwork to the powerful leaps, I felt completely absorbed by the story unfolding before me.
An Evening with Tchaikovsky
On this special evening, the program featured a production of Tchaikovsky’s ‘Swan Lake’, and I can't say enough about the production's beauty. Seeing the story of Odette and Prince Siegfried brought to life in such an expressive and emotive way was truly breathtaking. Every single gesture, every graceful movement, told a part of the tale, leaving me filled with awe and wonder. I felt connected to the story, to the music, to the dancers, and the whole magical energy of the theater itself.
Remembering Rudolf Nureyev:
After the performance, I made a quick visit to the Dancing House. Built on a spot that used to be a theater where Rudolf Nureyev himself danced. It felt appropriate to take in the stunning views of Prague from such an architecturally fascinating building. Nureyev's legacy still resonates so deeply within the ballet world, his talent was so impressive. Seeing the Dancing House - with it's curved glass facade and bold, modern aesthetic - just gave me so much inspiration.
Finding Inspiration in Every CornerThe charm of Prague lies in its blend of the old and the new, the historical and the modern, and the artistic and the functional. Everywhere I looked, there was a new story to discover, a new angle to capture, and a new detail to appreciate. I spent my evenings strolling through charming cafes, indulging in warm apple strudel while soaking in the city's vibrant atmosphere, taking long, relaxing walks along the banks of the Vltava River, and capturing moments that sparked my imagination and filled my creative heart.
A Little Slice of Pink Paradise:
Now, you can’t bring Emma to a European city without a visit to a charming little cafe for tea and cakes. And in Prague, I discovered just the place – Café Savoy. It has this fantastic retro feel – imagine plush velvet seating, ornate chandeliers, and beautifully patterned wallpaper. Of course, I went with a classic Czech apple strudel and a cup of fragrant jasmine tea – what could be more elegant? 💕
My Pink Tutu Musings:This trip has brought me some inspiration, a newfound love of Bohemian culture, and some of my favourite memories from travelling and dancing! And now for a bit of tutu talk! This trip was about remembering where tutus originated! As much as I love shopping for all the pink tutus in Derbyshire, did you know tutus originated from the ballet stage? That’s right! They weren't just something ballerinas wore to the ballet, they were, and in some ways still are, synonymous with the craft! It is all connected to ballet, which is, at the very essence, what inspires me every single day.
I’ll be adding more of this behind-the-scenes stuff to the blog as I find out more about the tutu world!
Travel on the horizon!
I’m back home now, but Prague is certainly one city that’s burrowed its way into my heart. It's definitely a place that begs to be revisited! Next up - a train journey to Budapest for the Ballet Gala on August 5th - and I’m already making my shopping list, deciding which pink outfits to pack! 🩰 Follow my journey and my love of tutus at www.pink-tutu.com - a new blog post goes up every Wednesday.
Until then, embrace the pink, dance your heart out, and don't forget to keep a little bit of magic in your day! 💖
Yours in Pink,
Emma
