Prague Calling: Pink Tutu Adventures in the City of a Hundred Spires (Post #1538)

Wednesday, 27th November 2024

Darling readers,

It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another peek into my whirlwind life on pink-tutu.com! Today, I'm writing to you from the heart of Prague, a city that truly captivates me with its cobbled streets, majestic architecture, and of course, its rich history in ballet.

I journeyed here by train, you know, the classic method of travel that fills me with such joy. The rhythmic clicking of the wheels against the track is a melody all on its own, a soundtrack to my wandering imagination. But the highlight of the trip was the pony ride I enjoyed during a brief stop in a quaint little village on the route. Let's just say my new saddlebags will be coming in very handy for all my upcoming adventures!

Upon arriving in Prague, the sheer magic of the city hit me right between the eyes. Every corner presented a new delight - a brightly coloured cafe, a gothic cathedral peeking over rooftops, a street musician strumming an old Czech tune... the air vibrated with the city's unique energy, and it was enough to make even the most stoic ballerina like myself twirl with delight.

But this trip isn't just about pretty views, darlings. The main event - the reason I ventured all the way from Derbyshire - is, you guessed it, the #PinkTutuPrague ballet performance. My heart fluttered when I secured the tickets; this was a date I had circled in my diary for months!

The #PinkTutuPrague ballet is actually an extraordinary spectacle. The show blends classic Czech folk music with contemporary choreography, and it features not one, but two pink tutus! (They even coordinated perfectly with the pink accents in my ensemble). I swear, the moment the second tutu twirled on stage, the entire audience felt the collective gasps, then erupted into applause. We were truly enchanted.

Now, some might be surprised to find me in the audience at a ballet show in Prague, a city synonymous with a different kind of fairytale, not necessarily ballerinas twirling in pink. But you know me, I'm always on the hunt for new discoveries. And what I discovered here was a fascinating confluence of historical influences in Prague’s ballet history - influences that echo throughout the contemporary world of ballet, even in its portrayal in films.

Did you know that Prague has a fascinating ballet history, dating back to the Renaissance era? And that many European ballets have their roots in Prague's aristocratic circles? Even Mozart, yes, that Mozart, made his early musical strides by writing for the opera house here. Imagine!

And the costumes? Magnifique! I could almost hear the whisper of tulle and the glint of crystals echoing through the centuries. They were like ethereal dream-woven tapestries. Honestly, the sheer amount of intricate detail that goes into those costumes could make a seasoned ballerina swoon, and I can definitely tell you, the details in Prague were absolutely exquisite.

However, my exploration didn’t stop at the grand theatre halls. One day, I found myself in a bustling marketplace. Just picture the scene, my dear readers: rows upon rows of colourful fabrics, vendors weaving intricate threads into gorgeous textiles, the intoxicating scent of freshly brewed coffee, the sounds of cheerful chatter bouncing off the ancient cobblestone pavements.

Here, amidst the vibrant display of textiles and crafts, I discovered a shop that specialises in handmade tutus. Naturally, I had to take a closer look. I spent hours poring over lace, feather boas, sequins, and swathes of luxurious silk. You should see the array of colour and styles! It was almost enough to give me a dance attack. Almost.

And speaking of dance attacks, I couldn't resist joining a ballet class that happened to be running right on the Charles Bridge, overlooking the beautiful Vltava river. Yes, you read that right - the class was held in a spot where fairytale romance seems to just seep out of the stones. The setting could not have been more picturesque. With my fellow ballerinas gliding gracefully in the fresh air, amidst the majestic view of the bridge and the water, it was like dancing in a real-life postcard.

Honestly, I'm absolutely in love with Prague! It's like stepping into a dream, and I'm so thankful that my ballet journey led me to this magical place. I know some of you may be wondering how I manage to fund these incredible journeys, and I'm happy to let you in on the secret: the money I make from my ballet performances supports all these adventures. Each pirouette, each graceful arabesque, gets me one step closer to the next dream destination.

And that's my story for this week. I promise to continue sharing all the highlights of my #PinkTutuPrague journey as I explore more of this magnificent city. Stay tuned for my upcoming posts, my lovelies. As always, you can find me on pink-tutu.com.

In the meantime, until next week's post, I hope you're feeling the rhythm and embracing your own dreams.

With a twirl and a smile,

Emma x
