Bonjour, darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballet enthusiast, back with a new post from the stunning city of Prague! I can already hear you asking: how does she always manage to get to these amazing places, Emma?, and the answer, my dears, is a simple one: magic! Well, maybe not magic exactly, more like the sheer power of the pink tutu and a generous sprinkling of ballet-infused brilliance.
As you know, I live for my weekly ballet performances. Not only do they give me a chance to shine in a new tutu (and believe me, Prague is a fabulous city for shopping, you'll see!), but it's my way of funding my adventures around the globe. Who knew that a childhood passion for twirling and a love for pink could lead to so much wanderlust?
So, let's dive into the Czech capital. My trip here was, naturally, a train journey – wouldn't dream of missing those gorgeous scenery views! Now, I have to tell you, the train ride to Prague was absolutely breathtaking. Picture it: sunshine dappling through the carriages, a gentle swaying rhythm, and the charming, old-fashioned countryside whizzing by.
Of course, no journey of mine is complete without a touch of fairytale magic, and the train ride to Prague was no exception. Just outside a quaint town with a name that sounds like it’s straight out of a fairytale, I encountered a family of ponies! Talk about a welcome surprise!
Their owner, a kind, weathered old man with a twinkle in his eye, let me borrow a pony for a quick jaunt. You can bet I twirled on its back, just like a little ballerina on stage! It was magical – truly, my inner child's dream come true.
Upon arriving in Prague, the first thing that struck me was the vibrant, fairytale-esque architecture. Honestly, this city could be the setting for a Disney film. Imagine gothic towers that pierce the sky, cobblestone streets that echo with laughter, and bridges adorned with enchanting tales of bygone days. You simply can't help but feel a bit like a princess (especially if you’re sporting a vibrant pink tutu, which, of course, I was!).
My little Parisian-style hotel is in the heart of Prague, right by the charming Old Town Square, and I have to admit, the cobblestones were a little bit of a struggle in my pointe shoes! But the gorgeous, 15th century astronomical clock more than made up for the struggle. I stood mesmerized as it chimed its hourly melody, a delicate spectacle of history, beauty, and whimsicality all rolled into one.
Now, let's talk about my big reason for visiting Prague: the enchanting Pink Tutu Prague ballet performance! Yes, you read that right, darlings. Every Tuesday in December, they host a magical evening of dance in the enchanting theatre housed in the National Theatre of Prague, and I wouldn't have missed it for the world! The theme of this particular ballet? "Tutu Time Machine," a delightful spectacle of ballet through the ages!
The performance began with a captivating prologue. Dancers glided across the stage in glorious costumes, the colours vibrant against the plush crimson curtains. Imagine if Marie Antoinette and the ballerinas of Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes had a time-travelling dance-off! That's pretty much what we saw, and it was breathtaking!
The costumes! Oh, the costumes! A whirlwind of shimmering silks and dazzling lace, from classic Victorian-era tutus to the modern, contemporary style of the 21st century. Each one a unique masterpiece, echoing a specific time in tutu history. Did you know that the first tutu only had four layers? It wasn't until the 19th century that tutus truly transformed into the airy, graceful pieces we adore today! It was fascinating to see how these graceful garments evolved alongside ballet itself.
I won't give you too many details about the show (you need to see it yourself!), but it included graceful pirouettes, daring leaps, and some stunning choreographed moments, leaving me absolutely breathless. It was the perfect way to end my Tuesday in Prague, leaving me utterly entranced and filled with joy.
Of course, no trip to Prague is complete without indulging in its delightful delicacies. We can't talk about Prague without mentioning Trdelník. You've probably already heard about this wonderful, delicious pastry that is ubiquitous in the city – but have you seen it freshly baked? My taste buds did a happy little jig at every mouthful, and I can see why it’s one of the best-loved souvenirs.
But no matter how many decadent delights I sampled, there was something I truly missed in my trip to Prague – that touch of home! A delicious slice of Derby Cake! There's something about that crumbly base, creamy, tangy filling, and dusting of icing that's so incredibly comforting. Perhaps my next post will be a baking one… stay tuned!
Remember, darling, life is like a dance. Put on your favourite pink tutu and embrace the adventure.
Until next Wednesday, keep on twirling!
Lots of love,
Emma
