Hello my darlings! Emma here, writing to you live from the most enchanting city in Europe... Prague! As you know, my little pink tutu heart has been aching to get here ever since I discovered a magical picture of a graceful ballerina on the Charles Bridge. It's truly a city made for twirling and ... well, wearing pink tutus, of course!
Riding the Rails in Style:
This week's adventure started on the train from Derbyshire, a journey I relished in true Emma fashion. Picture this: me, perched on the comfy carriage seat in a dazzling lilac number (tutu optional, but highly encouraged, naturally!), gazing out the window at the verdant English countryside rolling by. A tiny detail I adored - my seat was beside a lovely gentleman with a travelling harp. I'm pretty sure my day just became an imaginary ballet performance! He seemed rather pleased to have a little pink tutu admirer - I was enthralled as his nimble fingers coaxed melody from the strings. I can't help but think our train journey was the start of a perfect Prague performance, can you?
Tutu Shopping in Prague's Charm:
Upon arriving at the stunning Prague train station, a whole new world of pink tutus and beautiful blooms awaited me. The flower stalls overflowing with fragrant geraniums and sweet peas were simply breathtaking - I could envision them in the tutus of a ballet about springtime! My pink-hued spirit was definitely soaring. My first mission, naturally, was to find the most enchanting tutus Prague had to offer. It didn't disappoint. After a delightful afternoon shopping at the charming Boulevard stores, my wardrobe had an exquisite addition – a vibrant coral tutu with tulle so fine it could be the clouds of a sunset ballet. I couldn't wait to take it for a spin...literally!
From Street Performance to a Grand Opera House:
My love of Prague grew a hundredfold as I strolled through the heart of the Old Town. Everywhere I turned, there was a charming cafe brimming with laughter, buskers weaving magic with their melodies, and cobbled streets echoing with stories of times gone by. And then there it was – a captivating performance unfolding on the square! It was a modern take on the "Swan Lake" story, the music echoing off the buildings and drawing a curious crowd.
To be surrounded by a throng of excited onlookers as these amazing dancers captivated us was simply electric! I imagined their costumes, from the sheer grace of the swan's feathers to the rich velvet of the evil sorcerer's garb. I love seeing ballets in unconventional settings. This felt so free and full of life. I took to my own twirling, right there in the centre of it all. The passing people just laughed with such joy, you can tell they see Prague as the ballet stage of life!
This was merely a taste of what Prague's ballet scene had to offer. This evening, I was off to witness something truly magnificent - an actual, official, breathtaking performance at the prestigious National Theatre! It was “Don Quixote,” and as soon as I stepped through the grand arched entrance into the plush velvet seats, I knew I was going to be swept away. This production, in all its beauty and historical grandeur, took my breath away! From the grand, elegant costumes to the sheer athleticism and passion of the performers, every minute felt like pure magic. My pink tutu just flew with every arabesque!
A City Made for Fairy Tales and Pink Tutus:
I often feel that ballet takes you to another dimension, a realm where dreams and reality meet. Prague, however, is a city that already feels like a fantastical dream! This place has such an energy about it – vibrant, joyful, and a little bit magical. Every corner is waiting to be discovered and every street seems to whisper its own unique story. Walking across the Charles Bridge at sunset, the sun turning the city's stone a glorious pink, was magical. I could barely contain myself - I'd just had the most delectable apricot sorbet at a little cafe on the bridge and felt like I was actually dancing on air! It made me think about all the famous ballet dancers who might have danced here throughout history - maybe I saw the ghost of a swan lake ballerina passing through!
Prague's enchantment isn't confined to just its fairy-tale beauty. Its rich cultural tapestry and history - from medieval castles to Renaissance palaces, are just fascinating. Everywhere you turn there is a glimpse into the past - a charming courtyard, an old monastery, or a hidden garden where a poet or a prince may have once stood. For a pink tutu fan like myself, it truly feels like stepping back into a world of classic ballet inspiration!
Next Week: A Prague Ponysaurus!
And as I continue my magical journey in Prague, I can’t wait to share all the extraordinary moments with you. My diary is already bursting with more pink tutus, magical discoveries and incredible dance moments, not to mention a delicious chocolate dessert that looks like a swan (I’m so excited!), and perhaps even a trip to the city’s zoo! And don’t think for a second I haven’t thought of all of you while in this beautiful place – how would you like to see me on a horse-drawn carriage, looking radiant in pink of course! Prague has captured my heart – what are you waiting for? Grab your tutu, get on that train, and let's twirl together in Prague!
Until next week my lovelies,
Emma
