Winter Ballet Season in Feltham

Feltham's Winter Wonderland of Tutu: It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Ballet!

Hello, darlings! Emma here, your resident tutu-obsessed blogger and lover of all things twirling. It's officially that time of year again – the air is getting crisper, the days are getting shorter, and my heart is overflowing with festive cheer (and, of course, an unhealthy dose of tulle obsession).

It's winter, and you know what that means: it's ballet season! Yes, you heard me right, fellow twirlers! As the leaves fall and the wind starts to whisper, a different kind of magic begins to unfurl in Feltham, making the town sparkle with a uniquely graceful brilliance.

It all started last week at The Feltham Arts Centre, where the annual Winter Ballet Gala kicked off. Oh my goodness, let me tell you, it was a whirlwind of pink tulle and sparkly shoes. Imagine a classic fairy tale with a disco ball twist – that's pretty much what this year's "Sleeping Beauty" was. It was enchanting, dramatic, and incredibly stylish! And the fact that the dancers had glittery headbands woven into their hair? Just divine!

The opening number had everyone on the edge of their seats, a medley of Tchaikovsky's greatest hits (always a winning combination) that had the entire audience humming along. Then the story itself unfurled with captivating beauty, a modern twist on a timeless classic that managed to feel fresh and exciting, even if it is a story I’ve seen countless times before! The dancing, especially during the ballroom scene, was sublime, all effortless leaps, graceful twirls, and delicate hand gestures. They truly embodied the classic fairytale feel with an underlying sense of playfulness that had me smiling throughout.

But honestly, it was the music that stole the show for me. The orchestra was exceptional, breathing life into the traditional melodies and infusing them with an upbeat tempo that echoed the joyous spirit of the whole production. And the dance troupe were amazing! Their skills were on full display as they pirouetted and arabesqued across the stage, and those perfect "snowflake" tutus – they really completed the picture.

And if the performance wasn't enough to send me into a giddy fit, The Feltham Arts Centre’s lobby transformed into a Winter Wonderland of treats, decorations and more festive flair than you could shake a glitter stick at! There were delicate sugarplum meringues, elegant hot chocolate in porcelain mugs, and even a cheeky selection of winter cocktails for the adults (they don’t call me Emma “The Glam” for nothing, after all!).

After that unforgettable performance, it was a whirlwind of twirling and giggling, as I snagged a couple of selfies with my ballet bestie (I’m talking serious “swan lake” poses, obviously!) and danced my way into the local coffee shop to revel in the post-ballet glow.

And this was just the beginning of the festive dance frenzy! The local ballet school is hosting a performance of "The Nutcracker" later this month. It promises to be full of candy cane-coloured tutus, festive music and perhaps a sprinkle of glitter (we can only hope!), which means my sparkly ballet slippers will be ready and waiting for their big reveal.

The rest of the winter season is shaping up to be equally fabulous. I'm already planning my outfits and polishing my favourite sparkly tights for the upcoming ballet shows. It's going to be a winter full of magic, grace, and maybe a little bit of sparkly disco magic (because why not?).

So, if you're looking for a truly enchanting escape from the cold, or simply looking to indulge your inner ballerina, then grab a hot chocolate and get yourself to The Feltham Arts Centre, darling. You'll be whisked away into a world of twirling magic, leaving you feeling brighter and feeling even more prepared for the Christmas festivities than ever before!

And if you see a pink-loving blogger with a seriously stylish ballet bun in the audience, feel free to come say hi. Let’s talk tutus and get our twirl on.

Until next time, twirl on!

Emma (The Glam)
