Winter Ballet Season in Gateshead

Gateshead Gets Glitz & Glitter This Winter Ballet Season! â„ïžđŸ’–đŸ©°

Oh, hello my lovely ballet bunnies! It’s Emma here, ready to dish the dirt on what's hot (and by hot, I mean very sparkly) this winter in the wonderful world of ballet! Let's be real, December just wouldn’t be the same without a sprinkle of glitter and the feeling of magic that comes with watching these incredible dancers take to the stage. I mean, can you imagine the winter solstice without tutus? Honestly, the thought is positively unbearable!

This year, Gateshead's ballet scene is absolutely on fire. Honestly, I can't even handle all the fabulous performances I've been lucky enough to catch. Let’s dive in and get you up-to-speed on all the dreamy choreography, beautiful costumes, and of course, the glorious tutus that are making this winter ballet season a truly magical affair.

Step onto the Sugar Plum Fairy’s Dancefloor

First up, we have to talk about the show that absolutely stole my heart - “The Nutcracker” at the Sage Gateshead! Now, I know, I know, “The Nutcracker” might sound a little clichĂ©, but trust me, this one is far from boring. This production is like a whirlwind of fun. Think twinkling fairy lights, beautifully whimsical costumes, and of course, the infamous Sugar Plum Fairy (who I can only assume is related to the actual Queen of all things sparkly!) You’ll be transported to a winter wonderland, with its sugary snow flurries and stunning set design. And for those who think “Nutcracker” is just for little ones, I beg you to think again! This year's production really went all out with the theatrics and wowed the whole crowd – even this hardened ballet fan! It was a masterclass in sheer spectacle, leaving me with an absolutely glorious sugar rush and a heart full of wonder. #tutuwinter #tutuseason

Dances for Days
 and a sprinkle of disco!

Now, let’s move on to something a little less traditional. I was absolutely floored by the North East Dance Collective’s production of “Reimagine.” They took the stage by storm with their daring blend of classical technique and modern movement. They reimagined some well-known pieces – even throwing in a little disco magic! đŸ•ș Seriously, imagine your favorite ballet moves set to a Bee Gees song - it’s pure genius. Their passion for ballet shines through, and it’s infectious! Plus, those tutus, oh my, let’s just say I was in tulle heaven! The whole thing felt fresh and inspiring. You know that feeling you get after a good dance class? It was exactly that, multiplied tenfold.

A Touch of Local Talent

Speaking of inspiration, let’s give a shout-out to some amazing local talent! The Gateshead Ballet School’s “Winter Showcase” absolutely blew me away. These young dancers were incredible! The talent is definitely coming through in this generation of ballet enthusiasts. Seeing these youngsters absolutely own the stage gave me a proper warm and fuzzy feeling. It really is amazing to see the future of dance blossoming right before our eyes! It just goes to show, it's never too early to find your love for ballet, no matter what age you are! #tutuwinter #tutuseason

It’s not just the performances, darling

Look, I’ve got to be honest, the magic doesn't end with the performances. It’s all about the whole experience! From grabbing a delicious hot chocolate before the show to having a cheeky drink after, to just enjoying the beautiful atmosphere of these fantastic venues - it’s a night to remember! Plus, it's the perfect opportunity to dust off your fanciest outfit – yes, a reason to wear sparkly heels! Think glittering dresses, dazzling accessories and maybe even a little something pink for a touch of extra glamour. (It’s my favorite colour, you see! I mean, is there really any better way to wear pink than while enjoying a night of graceful dance and twirling tutus?)

So, whether you’re a seasoned ballet buff or a newbie just starting out on your tutu journey, this winter in Gateshead is definitely the place to be. Don’t miss out on all the magic these performers are offering. Honestly, it’s not just the ballet that's good for your soul, it's the whole feeling. It’s the glitter, the gowns, the atmosphere, the joy, and of course, the dazzling dancers who are creating a season of unforgettable beauty. It's something you have to experience for yourself. So grab your dance shoes, get out your sparkliest dress and let the beauty of ballet transport you to another world! ✹ #tutuwinter #tutuseason
