Leicester: Tutus, Twirls and a Touch of Disco! š©°āļø
Hello, darlings! Itās your favourite tutu-loving blogger, Emma, back with another fashion-fueled ballet review, this time, taking you straight to the heart of winter season in Leicester! Buckle up because this is about to get glamā¦ and glittery!
Now, thereās just something about the air in Leicester as winter creeps in, the city lights twinkle, and everyone seems to be wrapping themselves in cosy knits and long coats. But even before the first snowflake falls, Leicester bursts with a dazzling kaleidoscope of winter ballet performances. Itās enough to send a fashionista like myself into a joyful, sparkly frenzy, with endless opportunities to don the ultimate winter-ballet-chic: think dramatic coats, sparkly brooches, and, of course, a whole load of tulle! (More on those outfits later!)
I kicked off the season with The Nutcracker, the timeless classic at De Montfort Hall, which really set the stage for the entire winter season. The costumes? Stunning. Seriously, I couldāve sat there and stared at them all night. Imagine flowing skirts, glittering fabrics, and the most adorable sugar plum fairy tutus you ever did see. Swoon. Thereās something truly magical about seeing a hall filled with children decked out in their fancy Christmas gear, and the magic really takes hold as the Nutcracker comes to life on stage. Even those jaded souls with cynical streaks find themselves swept away.
Next up was Swan Lake at Curve, a completely different aesthetic, showcasing a darker, more dramatic side of ballet. The black and white contrast, the elegance of the swans, the fiery passion of the Princeā¦ all beautifully captured. I mean, the final act, the duel between the prince and the evil Baron von Rothbart, with his villainous henchman, was just a bit tenseā¦ in a good way. But it was the gorgeous ballet gowns, shimmering in white like moonlight on water, that truly captured my heart. And speaking of fashionā¦ can we talk about Odette's white, flowing, feather-like tutu? Absolutely breathtaking!
But of course, I canāt leave you without talking about my ultimate winter ballet must-haveā¦ the Swan Lake after-party! Yes, thatās right. I was lucky enough to get a ticket to the exclusive Swan Lake bash. Youād think the beautiful costumes would be the highlight, right? WRONG! This party was ALL about disco balls, glitter cannons, and dancing the night away with a DJ pumping out the most awesome 70s tracks! My love of tutus may run deep, but disco? I love me some disco! And, just to make sure the theme was crystal clear, there were even swan-themed cocktails and āblack swanā truffles ā decadent, delightful, and utterly perfect!
Of course, Leicester wouldnāt be complete without Snow White. Every year, the talented dancers of the Leicester Ballet Theatre bring this beloved fairytale to life. This production was especially magical! The dazzling costumes were even more flamboyant than usual and the entire show felt bursting with light and colour. Snow White's gorgeous tulle gown, with all its sparkle and detail, was a true testament to the amazing craftmanship involved.
As always, my winter ballet season would be incomplete without a performance from the Leicester Dance Academyās annual winter showcase. I swear, these kids get better every year. Seriously, where do they find such talented young dancers? And the energy on stage! You can practically feel it buzzing in the air.
Of course, no review is complete without talking about the ultimate outfit for the winter ballet season! This year, I am all about a long, glamorous black coat with a huge statement collar (Iām thinking fur for an extra touch of decadence!) A sequin-encrusted dress is always a winning choice for those gala performances. I canāt forget a sparkly clutch for all my essential bling. And last but not least, a pair of chic, comfortable ballet flats (think silver glitter, velvet, or a classic, feminine shape). But, it wouldnāt be winter ballet without a tutu! You know the drill. I have a little black one that's perfect for making a statement!
And just like that, my winter ballet journey in Leicester has come to a close. What an incredible experience, brimming with magic, sparkle, and dancing! I hope this has inspired you to visit Leicester for a bit of tutu-tastic winter cheer. Itās truly a magical time to be in this amazing city. Donāt forget to hashtag your #tutuwinter outfits, darlings!
Until next time,
Emma Xx
