First up, we have to acknowledge the sheer joy of seeing the North Shields Ballet Company's rendition of The Nutcracker in its traditional home, the stunning [Name of theatre]. Talk about festive feels! From the sugar plum fairies to the dashing Nutcracker himself, every dancer was a joy to behold. The set design was so charming, especially that snow scene. I mean, talk about a Winter Wonderland, right?! And that opening scene? Honestly, I was already in a sugar plum coma before the first act even began! 🤤
But it wasn't just the classic performances that caught my eye. I'm obsessed with Carmen this season - yes, I know, I’m a bit late to the party – but the North Shields Ballet Academy's take was just spectacular! 🔥 I mean, the costumes were fiery, the music was scorching, and the dancers brought so much passion to the stage it almost made me want to trade my tutu for some sassy flamenco skirt! 💃
And speaking of tutus, we have to address the incredible costumes, darling. I swear, some of those tulle skirts were big enough to house a small family! They truly looked like they came straight out of a fairytale! 🏰 Of course, I'm a big fan of pink myself (you all know that!) and so the pastel colours and delicate florals used for some of the acts were absolutely dreamy! It’s clear they've invested in some gorgeous new pieces and they just add such an incredible touch of magic to the performances. ✨
Of course, it's not just about the pretty costumes, darlings! These performers are seriously talented! Some of the lifts and leaps left me with jaw on the floor - seriously impressive! Plus, they danced with so much joy and precision that you couldn’t help but smile. And their energy is infectious! One night, I was caught singing along to The Nutcracker with a whole audience – total ballet-lover bliss! 🩰
However, the best part about the winter season in North Shields, has to be the sheer variety of productions they've got going on. They have performances that cater to absolutely everyone – whether you're a ballet aficionado or just want a bit of festive fun, there’s something for everyone. One week it's the classic Sleeping Beauty, the next they’re tackling modern interpretations with contemporary dance pieces! 🤸♀️
As much as I adore the elegance of traditional ballet, this year's inclusion of a disco-themed dance piece really stood out to me. It's not what you would traditionally associate with the ballet world, but that's the beauty of this season. The creators are really pushing boundaries and showcasing different styles in really innovative ways. It was a blast to watch those ballerinas strutting their stuff to Donna Summer! 💃🕺
Ultimately, I feel this season has been all about pushing boundaries, showcasing talent, and bringing communities together. And, of course, tutus. You simply can't forget the tutus! 💖
