Winter Ballet Season in Paris

Parisian Winter Ballet: A Glittering Celebration of Tutus & Twirls!

Hello darlings! Emma here, back with my very own take on the extravaganza that is winter ballet in Paris! This time of year, the city truly becomes the centre of the dance universe – just ask any tutu-wearing, dance-loving Parisian! There's a magical feeling in the air, a sense of something sparkly, sophisticated and wonderfully, undeniably, PINK (my favourite!). And I’m going to be your guide through this winter wonderland of breathtaking performances!

Let’s start at the beginning. Palais Garnier, with its plush red seats and gold accents, is a haven of elegance - it really feels like stepping back into a bygone era, doesn't it?

Ballet de l'Opéra National de Paris, wow. I swear the dancers are practically made of sparkling light. It's such a privilege to see these world-renowned talents up close. There's this palpable tension, you know, an anticipation for what's coming. This year, the traditional Christmas offering, 'The Nutcracker', truly had it all. I adored the new, whimsical stage set! Plus, I absolutely loved the added disco flare! Did you see how much those ballerinas moved? Honestly, they were almost better than disco balls. That energy was truly electric, I could have stayed there all night. I swear, I'm still living for the way those little mice did the conga - the pure joy radiating from them. The whole show is a feast for the eyes! You’re basically enveloped in a beautiful winter wonderland. Think soaring heights, sugar plum fairies and snowflakes that actually shimmer. A definite must-see for the season!

Right, next we have the Opéra de Paris’s own winter offering. “Winter's Tale”, their ballet in-the-round, is a real visual spectacle! Set against an enormous projection screen showcasing breathtaking scenery – snow-capped mountains, enchanted forests and even a roaring fire (it must be tricky getting that to work, especially with the snow!). The entire production was so intimate – it really felt like I was experiencing this enchanted world from the inside.

But winter ballet in Paris doesn’t stop at the big houses, darlings! Don’t even get me started on the independent shows at venues like Theatre de Chaillot, they are absolute hidden gems! So, keep an eye out for independent shows at lesser-known theatres, they are absolutely worth seeking out! And let's not forget the enchanting beauty of ballet shows around the city, in various halls, often using less elaborate sets but packing tons of heart, passion and amazing talent.

Here are some key shows you need to catch this season:

  • “Le Sacre du Printemps”: At ThÊâtre du Châtelet. A truly daring piece that really made you feel the emotional depth of Stravinsky's score. Absolutely mesmerizing!
  • “Les Enfants du Paradis”: At Palais Garnier. You won’t regret seeing this legendary show - all those tutus and a story of forbidden love?! I just want to dive right into the story!
  • “Swan Lake”: *Classic and elegant, every time. *

My verdict? The Parisian winter ballet season is a must-see for anyone who loves a beautiful night out. With each production oozing creativity, technical mastery and pure glamour, there's something for every dance enthusiast!

But darlings, here's my personal favourite element of this entire magical season - the ballet crowd. There is just something magical about seeing people dressed to impress in gorgeous gowns and tuttiest tutus at a venue like the Palais Garnier. Don't be afraid to join the fun by dressing up to the nines yourself. I guarantee you’ll add that little extra sprinkle of Parisian magic to your evening! And if you feel like getting your groove on before or after the ballet, pop over to my favourite discothèque: it's not just for dancing! We can totally match outfits!*

So get out there, get those tickets booked and immerse yourself in the magical world of winter ballet!

Yours in twirls, Emma
