Spalding Shines: Tutu Season Takes Centre Stage
It’s that time of year again, darlings! The air is crisp, the leaves are turning golden, and the smell of cinnamon candles is in the air… but for me, it means only one thing: tutu season! And let me tell you, Spalding is definitely bringing the heat this year!
As a ballerina with a penchant for all things pink and sparkly, nothing gets my heart fluttering quite like the magic of the winter ballet season. Spalding, with its quaint charm and cosy atmosphere, is the perfect backdrop for these captivating performances. It feels like stepping into a whimsical world where every step is a dance and every sigh a hushed whisper.
A Tumbling Cascade of Talent:
My journey started at the Spalding Arts Centre where the local ballet school, the Spalding School of Dance showcased its students in their annual production of "The Nutcracker". Now, "Nutcracker" may seem like a classic choice, but these youngsters had the stage crackling with energy! The Sugar Plum Fairy, in her dreamy tutu of shimmering silver, literally twirled me away to Candyland. And those little snow fairies? Oh my, their synchronized movement was more magical than any snowfall I've ever witnessed. You could feel the passion in every single step. This performance is a must for families - it’s a magical experience for the young ones and a delightful reminder of why we all love ballet.
From Classical to Contemporary: A Dance Fiesta
For something a little more modern, the Spalding Ballet Company had their stunning winter show, "Winter Reflections" at The South Holland Centre. I was completely mesmerized! A kaleidoscope of dance styles took centre stage – from the lyrical beauty of a contemporary piece that made me think of a sunbeam in a frozen lake, to the electrifying energy of a neo-classical work that almost had me reaching for my disco ball (sorry, I just can't help the glitter)! Their costumes were a feast for the eyes: think dramatic black velvets for a darkly powerful piece, followed by a playful swirl of vibrant colours that mirrored the burst of snowflakes in a winter storm. This production really showcases the depth and talent of this local company, showcasing contemporary dance at its finest!
Ballet, Beauty, and Bubbly
The night wouldn't be complete without a "Tutu Tea" at the gorgeous Spalding Hotel hosted by the Spalding Ballet Club . A warm space filled with pink peonies, twinkling lights, and the chatter of ladies all in love with ballet… it's simply a dream come true. The high tea was absolutely divine, with deliciously dainty finger sandwiches and pastries to keep even the most hardcore ballerina fuelled for the evening. I particularly loved the lavender and elderflower scones, perfectly paired with a delightful pink champagne – a perfect ending to a truly magical evening!
Spalding is shining bright with a truly dazzling ballet scene. *Don't miss out on the enchantment, darlings. Grab your dancing shoes, and let the *tutu season sweep you away!
