Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 1996-05-01 - Ciao Bella!
Post number 47 - And the tutu journey continues!
Hello lovelies! Itās your girl Emma here, back from a whirlwind journey through the Eternal City and bursting to tell you all about it!
Remember, my dears, this Wednesday is our special day ā Pink Tutu Wednesday! Itās where I tell you all about my travels, adventures, and of course, all the fabulous things I found on my ballet explorations around the globe. Because letās face it, even a ballerina needs a little bit of shopping therapy, right?
So, as you can see, my trusty old pink tutu and I are on the move again! This time, weāve just spent a truly spectacular few days in Rome, Italy. I donāt know what it is about this city, but I always feel like I could just lose myself in its charming, cobbled streets, the sound of laughter and gelato-munching children mingling with the echo of ancient history.
You might be thinking, āEmma, how does a girl in a tutu get to travel so much?ā Well, my lovely friends, youāll be surprised to hear itās all thanks to my darling ballet. Every performance is a chance to fill up the āEmma Travelsā fund, and let me tell you, it's a very happy little fund indeed!
Speaking of ballet, let's dive straight into the Opera House. Now, this is a truly extraordinary building - the history, the architectureā¦ it left me speechless, I swear. I don't think I've ever seen such a breathtaking auditorium. The chandeliers were simply sparkling with majesty, and I just had to grab a picture with my tutu against that stunning background, a little splash of pink against the opulent decor. You can imagine what a perfect Instagrammable moment it was!
This week in Rome, I had the immense pleasure of catching La Traviata. Now, I know that I don't always just watch ballet, sometimes the allure of opera and theatrical performances simply beckons, and let me tell you, it didn't disappoint! Iām still humming the beautiful melodies as I type this.
Naturally, the most important part of every trip, for me at least, is the shopping. Rome did not let me down!
Oh my darling readers, the fashion scene here is truly spectacular! From exquisite shops showcasing delicate silk scarves and handcrafted shoes, to chic little boutiques brimming with playful Italian fashion, there was a piece of every sartorial dream for every style.
My best find, by far, was a vintage silk scarf I found tucked away in a dusty old shop on a side street. It's covered in delicate wildflowers, in all shades of pink, of course! The fabric feels so soft against my skin, and the delicate floral patternsā¦ just divine. I think it'll be a truly fabulous addition to my Pink Tutu collection!
Let's not forget the food! The gelato in Rome is a masterpiece. Flavours you wouldnāt even dream of ā wild fig, lavender, pistachioā¦ my favourite, the rose gelato, was positively divine! The flavour was like sunshine and summer rolled into one.
But I know what youāre thinking, "Emma, is this whole Pink Tutu thing actually taking off? Does anyone actually wear one, besides you? "
Iām so thrilled to say itās actually happening! It all started on the Piazza Navona, in the centre of the city, right near that spectacular fountainā¦ Well, there was this group of stylish Italian teenagers, and they were having so much fun dancing and laughingā¦ So, being the tutu ambassador I am, I sashayed over and joined in the fun! We did some amazing ballet moves, all while they watched in wonder! Thenā¦ one of them, a lovely girl called Carla, actually went and bought a **pink tutu herself, at a local market, just for the fun of it! She told me sheās planning on wearing it on her next night out!
Oh darling, isn't it amazing?! A tiny bit of Pink Tutu inspiration going out into the world. It just proves, that little bit of extra sparkle never hurts! Maybe, just maybe, with enough pink and enough tutu power, the whole world will start twirling.
Of course, it's impossible to be in Rome without taking in the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. I just can't help but marvel at the stories they whisper about centuries gone by! And it was truly moving to wander through those ruins, imagine the echoes of emperors and gladiators, of love, and triumph, and a thousand other untold tales. It makes you feel like time has simply pausedā¦
And lastly, no visit to Rome would be complete without an indulgent night of opera, so I've been soaking up the stunning acoustics at Teatro dell'Opera. I'll tell you all about it next week - and let you know all about my Pink Tutu adventures in the city of Florence, which I'm exploring next!
Iām sending all of my love from Rome. Until next week, when I'll be in Florenceā¦
Stay pink, my darlings!
Emma xoxo
P.S. I know I'm all about pink tutus and glamour, but letās not forget to keep things real, ok? Rome has this special energy that kind of lifts your spirits and makes you believe anything is possible. So go out there, follow your dreams, be brave, be bold, wear your heart on your sleeveā¦ and if you feel inspired, wear a pink tutu! Maybe itāll even start a whole movement. ;)
P.P.S. Check out www.pink-tutu.com next Wednesday to join me in Florence for more adventures!
