Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! 🇮🇹 (Post #54)

Wednesday, 19th June, 1996

Buongiorno, darling tutus!

Welcome back to Pink Tutu Rome, where the sun is shining, the gelato is delicious, and the streets are positively buzzing with the thrill of Italian life. This week, my lovelies, we're exploring the Eternal City itself - a place so rich in history, art, and charm that it's practically impossible to take it all in!

Remember how I said in last week's post (remember those magnificent fountains?) that I was going to get my shopping on? Well, let's just say that my bags are bursting with treasures from Rome's incredible designer boutiques. Oh, the shoes! The scarves! The clothes that just scream, "Emma, you've got to have me!" My bank balance might be screaming a little too, but the excitement of finding these fabulous pieces for my wardrobe? Priceless!

Speaking of excitement, today we have a rather special event on the agenda: a ballet performance at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma! The company is performing La Bayadère, a spectacular production with an incredibly romantic story about a beautiful temple dancer and a valiant warrior.

I must say, I'm completely in love with Rome. It’s like stepping back in time while simultaneously being captivated by the vibrant present. Everywhere I look, there's a story, a memory, a masterpiece. From the Colosseum, a reminder of a time when gladiators fought in a sea of cheers and gasps, to the breathtaking Pantheon, where ancient Roman grandeur meets timeless beauty, every corner of this city is brimming with awe.

This morning, I woke up feeling so inspired, and so incredibly thankful to be here. Even the Italian weather has been kind, bestowing upon us glorious sunshine that just begs for an afternoon picnic at the iconic Trevi Fountain, followed by a delicious Italian dinner. Don’t forget, darlings, a little Pink Tutu magic wherever you go! My latest creation is a delicate pink tulle skirt, paired with a silky black top and a bright floral scarf. It's an homage to Rome, a city where history meets fashion, elegance meets joie de vivre.

Tonight, I’m absolutely thrilled to be seeing La Bayadère at the Teatro dell’Opera! This was my very first performance after my journey from Derbyshire to Rome, so it felt like a real, special moment, and to be honest, my excitement for the ballet felt like it might be bigger than Rome itself. Imagine a room, crammed full of tutus (mostly mine!), all swaying with the music, all captivated by the stories on stage. Such a delightful picture.

Now, here’s a quick thought for the week - you know I’m all about being true to yourself, expressing your inner fabulous, right? And in a way, my Pink Tutu is about exactly that - being comfortable enough to stand out from the crowd and dance to the beat of your own drum. It’s about having fun and reminding everyone around you, that we are, indeed, a beautiful community of amazing individuals!

Right, it's time to get ready for tonight's performance, darlings. But first, some delicious gelato. I think it's time to indulge! And as for you, my darlings, keep on spinning, keep on sparkling, and always remember - you’re never fully dressed without a Pink Tutu.

Ciao for now,

Emma x

Psst... You know, every adventure has a bit of ‘getting lost’ and somehow, the way my train journeys go, they seem to be all about it! It's not all smooth sailing (literally! Sometimes they are VERY shaky).

But you know what? Every train journey brings a unique perspective, whether it’s finding a forgotten station in Rome, watching the countryside roll by or, best of all, meeting wonderful people along the way. And just a little insider information…the Italian trains are incredibly stylish – think sleek, chic designs, perfect for whipping out your notebook and writing (like I am right now). And honestly, when your travels involve finding your own path, it somehow seems that the ‘lost’ train routes get you closer to those special, personal moments, right?
