Pink Tutu Rome - #182 - The Eternal City in Pink!
Hello my darling readers! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu adventure! This week, we're dipping our toes into the dazzling city of Rome, a city rich in history and culture, and brimming with that quintessential Italian flair! And guess what, you've got it - pink is making its grand entrance!
Let's rewind for a second. I'm Emma, a Derbyshire lass with a passion for pink, a love for twirling, and a travel-hungry soul. You may have caught my past adventures - we've shimmied through the streets of Paris, pirouetted in Prague, and salsa-ed in Seville. This week, though, we're exploring the ancient grandeur of Rome.
I arrived in Rome a few days ago, travelling by train (which, if you know me, you know is my absolute favourite mode of transport - perfect for dreaming, sketching outfits, and even sneaking in a quick barre!). My heart skipped a beat when I stepped onto the platform and the sweet aroma of freshly baked pastries hit my senses. My luggage (adorned with a beautiful pink bow, naturally) is ready to be filled with Roman souvenirs - think gorgeous fabrics, chic accessories, and of course, a new pair of sparkly ballet shoes to compliment my existing collection.
Day 1: Colosseum by Candlelight
Today, I embraced the Roman spirit with a visit to the iconic Colosseum! Imagine me, standing on the ancient floor, surrounded by towering walls, picturing the gladiators of the past and feeling the echoes of their battles. For an evening of enchantment, the Colosseum by candlelight is an absolute must. The flickering light bathes the monument in a mystical glow and sets the scene for a truly magical experience. The history, the stories, the grandeur - it all just washes over you. It was an experience I'll cherish forever.
But no visit to Rome would be complete without some delicious gelato. You just have to try a creamy, dreamy scoop! I'm currently addicted to the strawberry gelato, topped with fresh whipped cream and a sprinkle of crushed pistachios - it's the perfect after-dinner treat.
Day 2: Vatican City - Angels, Art and the Eternal Flame
My day in Vatican City was full of surprises, my favourite being a visit to St Peter's Basilica. The awe-inspiring artwork, the beautiful frescos and sculptures, and the vastness of the place simply took my breath away. And speaking of breath-taking, imagine my excitement when I saw the exquisite Angel statues flanking the central altar, dressed in pristine white robes. They reminded me of my very own tutus, each meticulously crafted, graceful and elegant!
We then moved onto the Vatican Museums, which overflowed with masterpieces by Michelangelo, Raphael, and countless other renowned artists. It's truly a paradise for anyone with an artistic inclination, like me. Of course, I had to capture it all in my trusty travel journal - filled with sketches, memories and colourful doodles.
And then, we came upon the Eternal Flame, burning continuously for decades in the heart of Rome. There was something incredibly humbling about witnessing this small flicker against the backdrop of the colossal cityscape. It reminded me that, just like the flame, our dreams and passions should always burn brightly.
Day 3: A Waltz Through the Trevi Fountain
On our walk today, we found ourselves in front of the Trevi Fountain, a magnificent example of Baroque art. With its graceful sculptures, gushing water and romantic ambiance, it was a dream come true for me. Imagine it: the gentle sound of water cascading, the reflection of sunlight sparkling on the water, the energy of the crowd all mingling together, and right in the heart of it, me! It was truly enchanting!
Naturally, I followed tradition and tossed a coin over my shoulder, with a fervent wish for another adventure. Who knows what I'll be waltzing through next week? Perhaps Vienna? Or maybe Copenhagen!
Fashion Finds & Ballet Dreams
Every travel blog needs a little dose of fashion inspiration, wouldn't you say? Well, my darling readers, Rome is truly a shopper's paradise! I have found myself overwhelmed with delightful shops full of hand-stitched fabrics, intricate lace designs and vibrant leather accessories. My suitcase is starting to overflow, but who can resist these vibrant hues and luxurious textures? I already know that this trip will inspire several new designs for my own ballet wear. Maybe a delicate rose-coloured tutu, or a vibrant purple skirt with pink embroidery, wouldn't you agree?
However, let's not forget why I am here: to experience the beautiful and diverse art form of ballet! Tonight, I am thrilled to be attending a performance at the Teatro dell'Opera. It's going to be magical - an evening filled with music, graceful movement and sheer beauty! I will, of course, be indulging in the dress code, donning a magnificent, hand-sewn tutu that I specially designed for this very occasion. Imagine a ballet of swirling pinks, flowing fabrics and twinkling lights. I can already feel the energy and excitement pulsing through the air.
