Buongiorno from Rome! Can you believe it? Your girl, Emma, is finally in the Eternal City! I’m already giddy with excitement, a bit of jet lag and a lot of pink tutu possibilities.
As always, this week’s post comes to you live from my latest travel adventure, fuelled by a combination of pink dreams, Italian coffee, and the thrill of performing for new audiences. I know you love to hear all about my travelling adventures, and I couldn't wait to share this trip with you.
Rome: A Ballet Dream Come True
Rome has been a dream destination of mine since, well, forever! This magnificent city with its stunning architecture, vibrant history, and delicious cuisine is the perfect blend of beauty, culture and excitement, which for a ballet-loving girl like me, makes it a pure joy. I have always wanted to perform in such a beautiful and historically rich city.
Just before I set off, I landed a beautiful, exciting gig - performing at the Teatro Argentina - such a famous place, with a fascinating history and incredible acoustics. I’ll be honest, there were a few moments before I stepped on the stage where I was convinced the ghost of a Roman Emperor or two would appear, especially when they dimmed the lights, ready for my performance.
I can’t believe it’s already been a week. Where does the time go?
The Italian public are amazing - the most warm and enthusiastic audience. The applause was thunderous. After my performance, I was gifted a stunning bouquet of flowers and some of the most beautiful pink silk scarves. You all know I love me some pink - so naturally, they’re now adorning my dressing table and taking centre stage in my latest travel vlog!
Travel Tips: Arriving in Style, of Course!
Travelling to Italy felt like stepping back in time - like something straight out of one of my favourite Italian movies. The scent of olive trees and fresh bread filling the air - you know I was excited!
For this trip, I opted for a comfortable and stylish (it wouldn't be a Pink Tutu adventure without some glam, right?) journey. Of course, my pink tulle, the star of the show, was in tow. Let’s be honest, this is the essential piece for travelling in style and making a statement, whether I'm walking through the iconic Piazza Navona, dodging the hordes of tourists by the Colosseum, or having a casual Italian coffee break at an open-air cafe in Trastevere.
I mean, who wouldn't want to be a whimsical ballerina in Rome? It's the ultimate "la dolce vita" experience! I even found a fantastic local boutique near my hotel where I scored some stunning ballet flats that perfectly complemented my travelling wardrobe. I am pretty sure the boutique owner fell in love with my pink tutu; she even offered me some free prosecco. How perfect!
A Week of Ballet Bliss - Soaking up the Italian Charm
Let's talk ballet, shall we? Rome has been a wonderland for a ballet-obsessed girl like me. Every day has been filled with stunning performances, incredible artists, and enchanting stories.
A Feast for the Eyes: Teatro dell'Opera di Roma
First up, I took myself to the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, a dazzling gem right in the heart of the city. The theatre itself is like a dream from a fairytale with gilded balconies, luxurious velvet seats, and ornate chandeliers - oh, the glamour! You just can't go to Rome without a trip to this breathtaking opera house.
Shopping for the Soul: Italian Fashion Heaven
Of course, I couldn't possibly visit Rome without doing a bit of fashion exploration, could I? This city is a fashionista’s dream, filled with artisan boutiques, high-end fashion houses, and quirky street stalls brimming with everything from chic leather bags to hand-crafted ceramics - and even more pink to fill my heart with joy.
There was one particular boutique in Trastevere that really caught my eye. The shop was adorned with vintage clothing, most of it in soft pink shades, naturally!
And you know me - I am always on the lookout for vintage pink tutus! I even found one, a 1950s vintage tulle number, adorned with delicate floral lace. I'm planning to wear it to one of Rome's famous rooftop bars later this week. Talk about fashion goals!
Embracing the Culture:
Beyond the glamour of performances and shopping, I’ve spent time delving deeper into the city’s soul. Visiting ancient ruins, such as the Roman Forum, where you can literally feel the weight of history around you, has been awe-inspiring. I've spent time just wandering through the charming backstreets and alleys - from Trastevere to Trastevere, enjoying the authentic Italian energy. There is something about this city that brings peace and joy. I've even learned a few Italian phrases, although I admit, they only include the words "ciao", "caffe" and "tutti". It seems to be working!
From Ballet to Bubbles
Of course, my adventure wouldn't be complete without some bubbly nights with fellow ballet dancers and new friends. We had a wonderful time dancing the night away in some of Rome's incredible nightclubs, each offering a unique and enchanting ambiance. A real blend of "la dolce vita" and dance-floor energy, which is all you could ever need.
The Pink Tutu Challenge: Spreading the Tutu Love
As you all know, it’s my life’s mission to convince everyone in the world to wear a pink tutu! In true Pink Tutu fashion, I’ve decided to start a challenge. I've launched #PinkTutuRome on social media. The challenge is simple - share a picture of yourself in your favourite pink tutu - in front of the Colosseum, by the Trevi Fountain, at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, or just anywhere in Rome, that looks glamorous and has a fabulous pink backdrop! My Rome Dream: Finding Pink Everywhere
And you know what? I think my pink dreams are slowly coming true. Everywhere I look in Rome, I'm discovering a beautiful blush, a hint of rose, or even a pop of fuchsia. The colours of Rome just blend so beautifully with my pink!
You just have to see the breathtaking views from Janiculum Hill. They make your heart beat faster - and yes, it’s totally possible to have a picture perfect view with your pink tulle on!
This week has been a whirlwind, full of joy and unforgettable experiences. You see, there’s no place like Rome for a pink tutu girl. I promise I'll be back again soon! But for now, it’s time to hit those fashion stores, and continue exploring!
