Pink Tutu Rome: Post #226 - Ciao Bella!

Wednesday, 1999-10-06

Hello darlings! It's Wednesday, and you know what that means! It's time for another Pink Tutu Rome adventure. I've been so excited about this trip! You see, my lovely Mum's always dreamt of visiting Italy, and I, well, I just adore any excuse to explore new and exciting cities! This time, though, it's even more special. It's a belated birthday present for Mum, and a chance for us to bond over some fabulous Italian food, beautiful architecture, and, of course, some delightful ballet performances!

A Train Journey Fit For a Prima Ballerina

Now, you know me, darlings. A girl can't just hop on any old train! This journey was a proper adventure, so I dressed the part. It's not just a pink tutu, you see. It's an attitude. It's a statement. It's about taking the ordinary and making it extraordinary. I paired my go-to bubblegum pink tutu with a sleek, black sweater for some contrast and a comfy pair of ballet flats. I even threw on a little velvet beret, just for that touch of Parisian flair. I can't let the train ride be boring, can I?

We travelled by Eurostar, darling. Straight from the heart of Derbyshire, England, to the very heart of Europe! Now, don't get me wrong, I love a good coach trip, but there's just something luxurious about travelling by train, don't you think? We sat by the window, enjoying the beautiful countryside fly by. We got the chance to chat and laugh, to look out for stunning landscapes, and even indulge in some delicious train snacks. Who needs champagne on a plane, right?

Roma! Roma! Roma!

The moment we arrived in Roma (with a big, theatrical flourish, of course!), the first thing that struck us was the aroma. You could just smell the spices, the basil, the fresh pasta, the espresso. It was all just so ... delicious. Oh, the promise of exquisite culinary delights to come!

And the sights, darlings! It was like stepping into a painting, every street corner bursting with colourful buildings, beautiful piazzas, and ancient ruins. Even the old stone paving felt charmingly different underfoot! We've already wandered around some gorgeous areas.

Piazza Navona - The Theatre of Our Lives

One of the first places we headed to was Piazza Navona. You see, it's more than just a pretty piazza, darling. It's an open-air stage! Just imagine, all that history, the laughter, the romance. Imagine the performances that happened here, the poets reciting their sonnets, the jesters cracking their jokes. That history resonated with my own theatrical soul. I almost felt the spirit of these performers, whispering their stories to me. I had to twirl!

But then, oh my! I can't tell you what we discovered around the corner, behind the Pantheon, darling! It was an adorable, quaint little shop, the perfect blend of whimsical and chic, selling tutus! A riot of colour! You can imagine how I lost myself for what felt like hours, picking out fabrics and tutus for myself and Mum. The lady in the shop was a true artist, she really knew how to make a tutu. We got our own personal couture touches, and darling, I was just giddy. I bought two for myself: one pink, of course, but also a bright orange one! The colour of life, that one is! It is so bold, a touch of wild passion that Rome brings to me!

A Night of Magical Enchantment at The Teatro dell'Opera di Roma

Today was the big event! It's one of the world's leading opera houses, you know, so we had to attend a performance. This beautiful venue was just as elegant and glamorous as I expected. As I put on my final touches (that pink tutu, obviously!), I almost felt like Cinderella herself, transforming from a simple girl to a sparkling diva, ready to enjoy an enchanting night of theatre. The seats were amazing - plush and velvety soft, offering a perfect view of the stage.

Tonight was La Traviata. The voices, darlings, were truly ethereal! I was transported to a world of romance and tragedy. Even the stage lighting and scenery were beautifully choreographed! It was like being caught in a whirlwind of emotions. Mum kept nudging me to watch and listen - even after the interval I was glued to the edge of the seat. And, you know, as we were leaving the theatre, the beautiful music seemed to be floating all around me, almost like a symphony of joy. I just knew I would be seeing more shows while in Rome.

Italian Flavours That Melt Away the Heart

No trip to Rome is complete without experiencing the magic of its food! I confess, darling, I've been a wee bit naughty. The pasta has been calling to me. The tiramisu has been whispering sweet promises to my taste buds! The creamy gelato - well, I won't even mention it! We've dined in some adorable cafes and trattorias, just savouring the Italian flavours and getting to know this wonderful city. Everything was just so perfectly balanced, so fresh and inviting, and full of that 'la dolce vita' feeling. You just can't help but smile.

Finding My Roman Style

Now, I can't go on a trip to Italy, darling, without adding to my wardrobe, can I? You know I always need something special for the ballet stage. I've been making the most of Rome's fabulous shops. I found a beautiful, hand-painted, flowy pink scarf in a small, tucked-away boutique, and I just knew it was meant for my Pink Tutu Rome collection! Then there's a shimmering, silvery-grey, satin skirt - I can already see myself twirling in this around the Pantheon! I even snagged a pair of these sparkly, comfortable dance shoes for an upcoming ballet performance. Just a little touch of Italy for the stage!

Until Next Wednesday, Ciao Bella!

And so, darlings, we are in the midst of Rome! It's been whirlwind romance - and, my goodness, what a week this has been.

Don't forget, darlings, I will keep you up-to-date on all my Roman adventures. So, check back next Wednesday for my next blog post! Until then, be kind to your fellow twirlers, keep your tutus sparkly, and dream big!

*Yours in Pink, *
