Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday, 19th April 2000 (Post #254)
Ciao Bella! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for a new Pink Tutu Rome blog post, and my oh my, what a week it's been!
First, I simply had to share a little about the grandest adventure of the past seven days. Now, you know me, I’m a firm believer that you should never say no to an opportunity to spread a little tutu-loving cheer, and a certain chance opportunity came my way last Thursday, like a graceful plié in the centre of the stage. It turns out that Rome’s Opera House needed a last minute addition for a performance of Giselle - apparently someone’s foot got stuck in a pas de bourrée mid-rehearsal. Now, I won't lie, this was a big moment! To suddenly be whisked onto a grand stage in the heart of Rome was quite the experience! I did not get my usual tutu, it had to be a grand, elegant gown – imagine a pale pink swirling number, very Belle-esque – but still, it was fantastic! The audience seemed to adore my contribution, which, let's be honest, was mainly my dazzling smile. Who doesn’t love a bit of good old-fashioned charm?!
The performance was a whirlwind of energy and elegance. Seeing such amazing choreography on such a beautiful stage is enough to make anyone twirl – but I must say, I did think to myself, ‘wouldn’t a touch of pink be the perfect finishing touch?’ Rome’s Opera House, though glorious, seemed a bit, well, subdued. Maybe they could experiment with a vibrant pink lighting scheme? Or imagine the audience decked out in pink tutus for the next performance? It's something to ponder for next time.
Back to the journey itself, darling! Now, I may adore ballet shoes but let's be honest – train journeys are so chic. And you know me – anything travel-related and my suitcases are always full to the brim with pink! This time, I'd snagged some delicious-looking velvet dresses, with just a whisper of blush. Perfect for my ballet-inspired street style, don't you think? I was picturing myself stepping off the train in Rome, all dolled up, twirling around the station for those paparazzi snaps. Oh, it was like I was in a scene from my own imaginary, fashionable film!
But alas, it was not meant to be! A sudden downpour just as we reached Roma Termini Station! Still, my spirits remained undeterred. As I danced (not literally twirled this time!) down the wet cobblestones, a gentleman in a tailor-made suit - seriously, the perfect, fitted silhouette, you could see him from miles away – just happened to walk past and he smiled at me. Sigh. Talk about a charming encounter!
Later, that evening, I had a splendid supper, where, of course, I charmed every gentleman with my tutu-centric tales and fashion insights. What better way to bond over a good Italian feast than to dream of a world where everyone wears a pink tutu, and every outfit is perfectly coordinated? Imagine, it’d be the ultimate power move! (And wouldn’t it just be fab to have a troupe of ballerina chefs whipping up delicious cuisine?).
And for those of you wondering, dear readers, about today’s plans, well, the day starts off with a visit to the Colosseum! A truly iconic symbol of ancient Rome, and my dear, how do I put this elegantly? … well, it really needs a pink makeover! It’s quite dreary, to be honest, this dark stone façade, but maybe they could just accentuate it with a few strategically placed, brightly-coloured pink flowers or… maybe pink sashes, fluttering in the breeze!
As the day rolls on, I will, of course, explore Rome’s fashion districts! Imagine, those beautifully crafted gowns, dresses, trousers… everything just a bit more dramatic, a little bit more glamorous, with a pink twist? Ahem, just a suggestion for the Roman fashion houses…
I’ve been noticing the most interesting things here in Rome - like, everyone wears hats here. Hats, darling! Now, my hair isn't really the hat-wearing type – not at this length, that’s for sure! – but the trend definitely deserves consideration. You know, imagine a pink hat, oh dear, a delightful concoction indeed! I might have to search for one in that vintage store I found yesterday! It’s absolutely choc-a-bloc with wonderful items - and the lady who owns it seems utterly charmed by my tutu obsession. I might even tempt her into trying one!
Oh, my dears, before I run off to find a steaming cup of cappuccino, and an Italian pastry (which I have to tell you, have been just wonderful) I have to give you one last thought! Rome, in all its glorious, historic charm… could this be the perfect place for a massive Pink Tutu Ballet Street Party? A gathering of all things fashion, dancing, and pure joy. Now that would be a delightful sight to see. Just imagine the sheer wonder as everyone twirled together! What a way to brighten the day for everyone around us!
Keep your tutus ready for next week, as my adventures in Rome continue! And be sure to stay tuned, darlings, I’ve got some grand plans for you all... in pink, naturally!
Ciao bella!
