Hello darlings, and welcome back to my little corner of the internet! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for a fresh dose of Pink Tutu Rome, the weekly update from your favourite travelling ballerina! This week, I'm shimmying straight into the heart of Rome, a city as dramatic and vibrant as a triple pirouette. I feel like I've stepped straight onto a stage, with the ancient Colosseum as my backdrop and the sunbeams dancing on the cobblestones like sparkling dust.
You guys know I adore a good train journey, and let me tell you, the ride from Derbyshire to Rome was pure bliss. A symphony of Italian chatter, the clink of glasses, and that irresistible scent of freshly baked bread filled the carriage. I spent the time sketching, jotting down notes, and, of course, twirling in my pink tutu! It's like a built-in stage anywhere I go.
Now, I've been in Rome for two days, and the sheer beauty of it all has left me absolutely spellbound. Itās truly a city that makes you feel like you're walking through time. I've spent hours exploring the historical heart, and let me tell you, there's a magic in the air that can only be described as āpinch me I'm dreaming.ā
A Fashionista's Delight:
First stop - a delightful shopping spree in the heart of Via Condotti! Can you believe, my darlings, I actually found a vintage pink tutu in a tucked-away shop? A beautiful, feathered creation that whispers stories of Roman ballerinas from decades past. I'll have to give it a good twirl for my next show back in Derbyshire - perfect for adding a touch of history to my routine!
Naturally, I couldnāt resist a little sartorial indulgence myself. Rome is brimming with the most stylish boutiques. I snagged the most fabulous emerald green silk scarf with gold embroidery, which is going to be a staple in my upcoming performance outfits. I love how fashion and dance complement each other so perfectly - both art forms about movement, expression, and creating beauty.
Stepping onto the Roman Stage:
Now, no trip to Rome is complete without witnessing the sheer brilliance of a ballet performance. Tonight, Iām heading to the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. I've heard whispers of a dazzling production of La BayadĆØre, featuring some of Italyās most celebrated dancers. Iām absolutely ecstatic!
The Italian ballet scene is so renowned, and I'm so excited to soak up the atmosphere and soak in the artistry. You can bet your bottom dollar I'll be sharing my thoughts on my blog next week. Imagine, the Roman night, the swirling tutus, the captivating music - pure magic!
Beyond the Pink Tutu:
Iāve already learned a few essential Italian phrases, like āun gelato per favoreā (a gelato, please). The ice cream here is legendary - oh my goodness, my darlings! You wouldnāt believe the flavors! Imagine raspberry sorbet topped with crunchy almonds, or hazelnut gelato infused with real espresso... divine!
Iām even learning some Italian words related to ballet. āFolleā (mad), I whisper under my breath, every time I encounter another breathtaking monument, āFantastico,ā when the sunlight illuminates the cobblestone streets, āMeraviglioso,ā when I lose myself in a glass of wine at an outdoor cafe.
I've even had a go at throwing a pizza dough like a true Italian. Let me tell you, the art of making pizza takes dedication and passion, something I can totally relate to in the ballet world!
A Dreamy Escape
Honestly, I haven't felt this relaxed in ages. Perhaps it's the Roman air, the delicious food, or the simple joy of twirling down cobbled streets. Maybe it's all of the above. Rome is a city that stirs the soul, invites you to slow down, and to soak in the beauty around you. I feel incredibly grateful to be here, experiencing everything it has to offer.
