Pink Tutu Rome: Post #310 – La Dolce Vita in Pink!
Ciao bellas! It's Wednesday, and that means it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome blog post, straight from the heart of the Eternal City!
Today, 16th May 2001, the sunshine is beaming down, the gelato is calling, and I'm feeling all kinds of excited to share my adventures with you lovely lot. Rome, oh Rome, you're just so chic! I mean, just look at these cobbled streets, the beautiful architecture, and all the gorgeous men (they do know how to dress here, don't they?) - this place is like stepping into a romantic film.
Last week, you may remember, I was off on a train journey (the train's just my happy place!), heading towards the Italian capital from Derbyshire. I've got to admit, a train journey through Europe with my beloved pink tutu is my absolute favourite way to travel. And it makes it even better when I get to twirl on the platform at every station - everyone seems so pleased with me! It’s my little way of sharing some happiness.
Speaking of happiness, this week has been jam-packed with ballet! I started my journey in Rome with a beautiful performance at the Teatro dell'Opera. The production was La Bohème – the costumes were absolutely divine! It was an exquisite blend of tragedy and romance, and left me feeling quite emotional, I must admit. Seeing Puccini's music performed live, coupled with the visual spectacle of a world-class ballet, was a truly magical experience. I’m not ashamed to admit there were a few tears (it's okay, a ballet performance gets even the toughest of souls feeling sentimental).
However, this week has been all about balance. While classical ballet holds a special place in my heart, street performance has been buzzing too. Yesterday, I spent the afternoon in Piazza Navona, catching some fabulous street performers. There was a young Italian man who could twirl a scarf like no one's business. I was in awe! I love street performances; they are so full of raw energy and talent, and it's wonderful seeing people come together in a public space, united by a shared love of art.
Of course, my Italian adventure wouldn't be complete without a little bit of shopping! It would be wrong to visit Rome without paying homage to the exquisite Italian craftsmanship, right? And who better to bring along than a pink tutu? Today, I’m indulging my passion for fashion and indulging in some major shopping at Via Condotti. It's truly a fashionista's paradise! There are so many amazing shops and boutiques, I think my credit card is going to need a holiday afterwards. There's this beautiful coral-pink vintage Chanel handbag I've had my eye on, it will go perfectly with my wardrobe - the dream!
And, speaking of fashion, I just had to snap a few pictures of my outfits, especially when it’s sunshine like this in Rome! My new-found obsession is these adorable white and pink floral dresses from a vintage store here - I love how light and feminine they are, just like a twirling ballerina in bloom!
However, I do believe the best part about Rome is the people. They have a wonderful energy, an infectious zest for life, and they're always up for a good laugh. The other day, I popped into a cafe for a coffee and my little chat, and I met this lovely Italian gentleman called Alessandro. He was intrigued by my pink tutu and we ended up chatting for hours! He told me all about Roman history and how the city is transforming into a cultural melting pot. I learned so much! We’ve planned to meet up tomorrow – perhaps he’ll help me pick out the best gelato spots – his girlfriend is actually a ballerina herself! How amazing is that?
But, I think my favourite moment was taking a tour around the Colosseum. It was amazing to see such a piece of history up close. It felt as if I’d been transported back in time. Imagine all the drama and spectacle that played out within those walls. As I stood there, surrounded by so many incredible stories and a little pink tulle, I realised that I too could be part of that legacy, creating new memories to add to the tapestry of life. And wouldn’t that be simply magical?
The only question is: how can I convince more people to embrace the pink tutu, a symbol of joy and happiness, so everyone can share in that magical feeling? Hmm... perhaps I’ll create a campaign - a pink tutu street parade for next week, maybe even a flash mob in front of the Trevi fountain? Now, that would be fabulous!
But hey, I know some of you love pink and maybe not so much the tutu... maybe the Italian version of pink tutus would suit - a delicate, silk scarf tied around the waist? Imagine, a soft pastel scarf with the same feeling of carefree twirling, flowing in the gentle Italian breeze... Oh my, I love the idea!
Right, that's all for this week from Rome! My head is already full of ideas for my next blog, so come back next Wednesday for a brand new Pink Tutu Rome update. In the meantime, please do tell me about your own style and share your own adventures! And remember, spread joy, spread kindness, and maybe… dare to twirl in a pink tutu!
Until next Wednesday!
Ciao bella,
Emma xx
