Pink Tutu Rome: Post 425 - Ciao Bella! (Wednesday 30th July 2003)

Buongiorno, darlings!

This is Emma, your Pink Tutu girl, back from a whirlwind week in the Eternal City! And let me tell you, Rome did not disappoint! It was everything I dreamed it would be: history, culture, sunshine… and did I mention delicious gelato? I know you lovely lot are going to be just as excited as me when I share this little slice of Italian magic.

So grab yourselves a cappuccino, put on your favourite shade of pink, and let's dive into this week's blog post!

A Dance-Filled Journey

I’m still buzzing from last weekend! I flew over to Milan on Saturday, performing in a special charity event for an orphanage, and then, after the encore (naturally, the finale included a pirouette and a big flourish of my pink tutu!) I caught a train straight down to Rome. I absolutely love train journeys! The romance of them! There's something magical about gazing out of the window at the passing scenery as you settle into a book and soak up the rhythm of the wheels clicking on the tracks.

As always, my travel wardrobe was meticulously planned. What better way to tackle the heat of an Italian summer than a flowing, breezy maxi dress? Mine, naturally, is in the palest blush pink with a floral print that complements my blush pink, slightly frilled, tutu! (Okay, okay, maybe that bit wasn’t entirely necessary. But who am I to argue with comfort, darling?)

Rome, My Dear Rome…

Stepping out of the train station was a symphony for my senses. The aroma of freshly baked bread mingled with the perfume of the lavender bushes blooming in window boxes. Cobblestones beneath my feet gave a comforting rhythmic sound with every step. Everywhere you looked, stunning architecture soared towards the cloudless azure sky, punctuated by a canopy of lush green leaves. The Romans certainly had a knack for blending grandeur and nature.

We made our way to the hotel (an absolutely divine boutique spot with the most delightful patio for sipping espresso!) and immediately started our whirlwind tour of the Eternal City! First stop: The Colosseum. Wow, just wow. To think gladiators and lions battled here over two thousand years ago! Even my tutu couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the scale and grandeur of the place.

The next day, I felt compelled to delve into Roman art. I mean, it's not every day you can step into the same galleries Michelangelo and Bernini did! So, off to the Galleria Borghese. It’s easy to get caught up in the incredible art, the stunning paintings, but I was absolutely mesmerised by the beauty of the museum building itself. The manicured gardens and views of the city? Divine! Of course, no visit to Rome is complete without seeing the Vatican, and oh darling, what a spectacle! It's absolutely brimming with history, art and a touch of magic!

Shopping, Food, and Everything Pink

We squeezed in some fantastic shopping along the way, too. I am now the proud owner of several pairs of delicate silver earrings with pearl drop-downs, all perfectly coordinated with my wardrobe. I must admit I had to splurge on a silk scarf from one of the adorable boutiques on Via del Corso, and of course, I got myself a delightful straw hat with a pale pink satin ribbon. Because every good outfit, my dears, is built upon accessories!

The food, of course, has been absolutely divine! The fresh pasta, pizzas, and salads... it's all so fresh and full of flavour. Let's not forget the gelato, a creamy, sweet explosion of happiness, a delicious highlight of each and every day! I even sampled tiramisu in a quaint cafe overlooking a bustling piazza. Truly divine, darling!

And for my beloved followers, there's an extra sprinkle of excitement this week! I just had to try a little "dolce vita" with a spot of impromptu street ballet. Yes, darling! My pink tutu, a couple of turns, a jeté or two, and voila! A spontaneous performance that brought smiles and applause from onlookers! The streets of Rome, they say, have a magic all their own, and my pink tutu added a little extra flair to the magic!

Back To The Ballet

And now, I'm off back to Derbyshire! With my head full of memories and my suitcase full of Italian treasures, I'm already longing for my next Italian adventure.

I'll be sharing photos of my Rome trip soon, darlings, so stay tuned! And don't forget to check out the “pink tutu style” section of my website for tips and inspiration on rocking a tutu! I'll be back next Wednesday with more adventures and sartorial delights from the wonderful world of dance!

Until then, stay stylish, stay sparkly, and keep on dreaming, darlings!

Lots of love, Emma

P.S. This weekend, I'll be back to the stage for a ballet recital in Nottingham! I'll let you know how it goes next week.

P.P.S. Remember, the power of a pink tutu knows no boundaries! If you’re brave enough to wear one, it might just inspire you to conquer the world!
