Pink Tutu Rome: #478 - The Eternal City of Dreams (and tutus!)
Ciao Bella!
It’s Wednesday, the day for a little slice of Pink Tutu Rome life right here on www.pink-tutu.com. As you know, my travel itinerary is guided by my tutu-clad whims and a little help from my diary, which tells me that on 4th August 2004, I'm whisked away to Rome, the Eternal City.
Rome, oh Rome! You just have to experience it to believe it, with your own eyes, your own little toes in the sand (or cobbles, in Rome's case!). As a Derbyshire girl through and through, I've always loved travelling by train. The journey through the Alps was like stepping into a fairytale - breathtaking mountains with snow-capped peaks, vineyards stretching across green hills, little villages clinging to the side of the valleys. It's a true reminder of how beautiful our world is. And with a bit of Pink Tutu magic (and a good pair of pink ballet shoes), even the longest train journey feels like a pirouette into a dream.
Now, my darling readers, Rome! It's all about that history. Honestly, you feel like you're stepping right onto the stage of a grand opera! The Colosseum, the Forum, the Pantheon… Everywhere you turn, you’re face to face with something magnificent and ancient, a testament to the legacy of Rome's emperors and the power of human creativity. But what really captured my heart? Why, the breathtaking view from the top of the Spanish Steps! It's one thing to see pictures, it’s another to actually stand on that stone stairway with the panorama of the city unfolding in front of you. It was the most amazing feeling - I even felt the urge to burst into a graceful sequence, like a little Roman ballet performance, only to be gently dissuaded by a friendly Italian grandmother who was happily knitting near the obelisk. She even gave me a big smile and a thumbs-up, a perfect Italian "bravo!".
Speaking of Roman flair, I found some incredible pieces in the quaint little shops hidden away in the cobbled streets. My eyes just sparkled! Imagine a deep plum coloured silk top with ruffles and frills - divine! I felt like a Roman princess ready to conquer the ancient Forum (with a touch of pink, naturally!)
But the best part of the day? The magical ballet performance at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma! I felt like a true Roman goddess dressed in my dazzling pink tutu, glittering in the dim theatre lights. Oh, the music, the movements, the emotions... the stories told through dance - it's absolutely breathtaking. Even though I don't speak a word of Italian, it doesn’t matter! Ballet speaks its own universal language, one that understands and expresses joy, passion, heartache, and dreams. That evening, I left the theatre feeling like I was on cloud nine. And believe me, even my pink tutu, normally a bit too bright, perfectly complimented the shimmering lights and atmosphere.
Tomorrow? We’ll be exploring the Catacombs, so stay tuned! You'll be getting all the updates and some Pink Tutu inspiration, straight from Rome, of course. And in the meantime, keep dreaming big! After all, even a little Pink Tutu magic can transform your everyday life into something wonderful!
And remember, you can never wear too much pink!
XOXO,
Emma
P.S. My Ballet Diary:My Rome Itinerary
Today I had a magical day in Rome. After taking the train journey across the Alps, I got to explore all the grand landmarks and indulge in the rich Roman culture. From the incredible Colosseum to the enchanting Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Rome has so much to offer. I'll be sharing all my adventures, and hopefully a few pink tutu tips and tricks for making any place feel special.
- 8:00 AM - Breakfast (Cafe near Termini Station): This morning started with a typical Italian breakfast, coffee, and a little brioche. My pink tutu looked great with my Parisian-style beret and stylish scarf.
- 9:00 AM - Colosseum : I love history! This iconic monument gave me chills and allowed me to feel like I've stepped back in time.
- 10:30 AM - The Roman Forum : History lovers are going to have a ball here, the Roman Forum gave me more amazing glimpses of Roman history. The Colosseum is pretty grand. I just imagine the exciting days where crowds gathered to watch their favourite gladiators fight! It was fantastic for pictures, though I confess, I kept having to adjust my pink tutu as I'd twirl to get the perfect shot. I managed a very stylish twirl shot right near the Palatine Hill, a definite "bravo" for my twirling abilities there!
- 1:00 PM - Lunch in a cute Trattoria (A tiny one called “La Bella Roma"): I've already been in Rome for less than a day and I'm convinced Italian food is the best food. Everything from the creamy carbonara to the perfect espresso, makes you want to sing and dance with happiness. I decided to stay on the "traditional" theme for lunch, and chose pasta carbonara. A few plates were cleaned quickly (it was me!) and I left, completely satisfied.
- 2:00 PM - Pantheon It's so different to anything I've seen before, so serene and beautiful, I was completely mesmerised.
- 3:00 PM - Spanish Steps and Shopping: They are even more beautiful in person than in pictures. And all the cobblestone streets had little cute shops bursting with stylish clothes. My handbag was already brimming! A few delightful, slightly vintage but perfectly trendy shops meant I managed to buy myself a perfect new blouse. Deep plum and a lovely ruffle, just what my wardrobe needed!
- 6:00 PM - Prepare for a magical Ballet performance: I have to confess, I found the most amazing ballet performance at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma! I spent about an hour picking out the right pink tutu - and it had to sparkle, because even if I didn't feel like a star I sure looked like one in that place. The audience seemed very well-dressed, and of course, some of them were wearing tutus as well - and some amazing headbands, I'll be sharing the tips next week!
- 8:00 PM - The Show at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma : What an evening. From the first note of the orchestra, I was mesmerized. I just got carried away in the swirling dances of the ballerinas. Such grace! Such beauty! They moved with the rhythm of the music, with emotions so captivating! I have to admit, this night topped the Roman Coliseum experience.
It was so much fun. It makes me wish I could pack up my little ballet bag, throw on a pink tutu and head straight to the stage. Until then, it will have to be my travel blog!
