Pink Tutu Rome #548: Ciao Bella!
Wednesday, 7th December 2005
Oh, darling! Itās Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu blog post! This week Iām in the eternal city, Rome! And believe me, the excitement levels are higher than a pirouette en pointe!
After months of planning and scrimping, saving every penny from my ballet gigs (from the lovely Derby Theatre production of "Swan Lake" to a Christmas panto in Matlock), I finally booked my Eurostar ticket. The journey itself was an adventure, sipping coffee in a chic French cafĆ© in Paris while watching the world whizz past ā perfect inspiration for my next outfit! I even wore a rather fabulous pink beret, for the occasion, of course.
Rome!
Rome itself, oh my goodness! This city is like a time capsule of incredible architecture, bustling street life, and a sense of history that simply takes your breath away.
I've been exploring the Roman Forum, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Just wandering amongst those crumbling walls, you can imagine the grandeur of the Roman Empire and all those ancient Romans swirling around, probably in togas and sandals ā though I reckon a pink tutu might have given those statues a good run for their money!
This morning, I took a walk down Via Condotti, Romeās designer district. Now, you can't travel to a fashion-forward city like Rome without treating yourself to a few gorgeous pieces. I stumbled across this beautiful vintage shop selling exquisite 50s and 60s dresses ā I walked out with a blush pink polka dot dress that wouldnāt look out of place in a Fellini film.
Tonight: Teatro dell'Opera di Roma!
Now, tonightās the big event: the opera! Iāve been saving all week to see the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, home to world-class talent and, for someone who adores opera, a true bucket-list experience.
Imagine: a spectacular building with breathtaking chandeliers and grand marble halls, the orchestra playing a stunning score, the singing divine ā all while Iām sat there, in my fabulous, sparkly pink tutu. This city truly has something for every Pink Tutu enthusiast.
Speaking of tutus, did I mention I picked up the most darling vintage tutu in a market yesterday? Itās made of tulle as soft as a cloud, with delicate embroidery ā and itās oh so pink. My Rome shopping trip is clearly a resounding success!
Life in Pink in Rome
Rome has so much to offer ā vibrant food markets, the smell of freshly baked pastries in the air, stunning sunsets from the rooftop of a cute trattoriaā¦I could go on and on.
However, this week I want to tell you about the pink, because Rome, in all its historical splendour, seems to embrace it, just like my own passion for it. I found a shop in Trastevere ā you simply have to visit this neighbourhood with its cobblestone streets, charming squares and delicious food. ā they're selling the most amazing vintage pink silk scarves! My bag has never been so full.
This evening, I will don my most sparkling tutu (I couldn't possibly wear any other garment to this fabulous venue!), do my makeup and hair to perfection and feel truly ready for an evening of musical bliss. If Iām lucky, perhaps Iāll even meet the conductor! I might ask him if heās seen āPink Tutu Diariesā (which would only be if he has impeccable taste, of course) ā and maybe we could collaborate for my next ballet extravaganza!
My lifeās mission is to spread the joy of the pink tutu! It is the ultimate symbol of joy and freedom. It stands for embracing colour and making a bold statement, breaking boundaries and spreading joy! And for that, I hope to one day grace the stages of Rome's Teatro dellāOpera in a fabulous tutuā¦
Stay tuned, darling, as I share more of my adventures here in Rome.
Ciao, and rememberā¦ Let's paint the world Pink!
Yours truly,
Emma
