Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 2006-03-08 - Ciao Bella! 🩰🇮🇹
Post Number 561: The Eternal City, in Pink, of Course!
Well, hello my darlings! It’s your favourite pink tutu-clad travel blogger, Emma, signing in live from the most romantic city in the world – Rome! I’ve swapped the cobblestones of Derby for the cobblestones of Rome, and let me tell you, the only thing better than a Derbyshire country lane in spring is the glorious sunshine bathing the ancient streets of this stunning city!
As you all know, my travel blog, www.pink-tutu.com, goes live every Wednesday with my latest adventures, and this week it’s all about Rome. I’m on a whirlwind trip this time – my latest ballet performance in Milan helped fund this mini-break and I just had to sneak in a few days exploring this majestic city!
My trip kicked off with the classic journey - hopping on a comfy high-speed train in Milan, admiring the scenery while sipping a latte. (Why does everything taste better on a train?!). And you can imagine my excitement when I arrived at Termini station – the energy of Rome was intoxicating! I think it’s the energy of a million stories waiting to be told!
First impressions? Fabulous! Rome’s not afraid to be bold, it oozes a vibrancy and a certain “je ne sais quoi” – think bold colours, magnificent architecture and the most delicious smells imaginable (the scent of freshly baked bread, strong espresso and creamy gelato). This city is a feast for the senses!
Where has the pink tutu taken me today?
My day started early - who can resist waking up in a beautiful hotel room overlooking the bustling streets of Rome? After a quick change (naturally in a pink tutu - it's Rome, after all!) and a croissant from the cafe downstairs, I set off to discover the iconic Colosseum!
I'll be honest, I almost forgot how awe-inspiring this giant stadium truly is. It's one of those places that doesn't quite register in your imagination until you stand there, looking up at it’s enormous scale and imagining gladiators battling it out beneath the Roman sky. I even found myself practicing a little ballet pirouette – my very own "Colosseum Ballet" performance. A moment captured in a fantastic snap (look out for my instagram post!)
And who can visit the Colosseum without experiencing a traditional Italian lunch? We sat al fresco (because, sunshine!) in the heart of the old town, enjoying pasta carbonara (heavenly) followed by a delightful scoop of gelato in flavours I never knew existed – caramel and almond? Absolutely divine!
Rome is, after all, about more than just history. It's a city for the senses!
The Pink Tutu Roman Shopping Spree!
You know how I love a bit of shopping! I popped into a little boutique in the Pantheon square and was instantly overwhelmed by the charm. They had the most delightful pink accessories and I couldn't resist a cute pair of floral earrings for my evening outing. Then, it was onto a street lined with incredible fashion boutiques. Each window display seemed to whisper: "Emma, come in, come in!” It’s the city for shoes, scarves, dresses and the perfect pink pashmina – what more could a girl ask for?
But the ultimate shopping highlight for me today had to be the gorgeous open-air markets! A labyrinth of stalls overflowing with leather goods, quirky gifts, vibrant jewellery – I spent hours lost in the beautiful chaos, picking up a unique little Italian pottery plate to add to my collection.
Dress for the occasion.
Tonight, the city is alive with music. We’re going to experience the magic of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma! This famous theatre was built in the late 1800s and houses some of the most exquisite performances in Italy – from ballet to opera! And naturally, my pink tutu (a stunning cherry blossom print this time!) is going to take centre stage at the opera tonight! It wouldn't be the Pink Tutu blog without a bit of pink tulle sparkle in Rome!
Rome: City of Wishes!
Tonight, I’m heading to the Trevi Fountain – a truly enchanting spectacle! And who can resist a coin tossed into the water, making a wish for future adventures? I’ll be dreaming of dancing on the Trevi steps under a Roman moon and making wishes with every flick of my pink tutu.
This week's Pink Tutu blog is coming to an end! I know I've barely scratched the surface of all this magnificent city has to offer! Stay tuned for more tales of delicious food, ancient history and of course, a whole lot of pink tutu inspiration, next Wednesday!
Ciao for now!
Emma xx
