Pink Tutu Rome #565: Ciao Bella!
Wednesday, 5th April 2006
Ciao bellas! Can you believe it? This week, I'm writing to you from the heart of Rome, surrounded by history, stunning architecture and of course, fantastic gelato! It feels surreal to be here, but also incredibly exciting. As you know, travelling by train is one of my favourite ways to get about - so comfy, so romantic, and allows me to fully soak in the landscapes of whichever country I'm whizzing through.
I can't lie, though - getting here wasn't all smooth sailing. cue the dramatic sigh Let me tell you, that long train journey from Derby to Rome was quite the adventure. First, I forgot my ballet shoes in my other pink tutu! I'd already packed my red one and honestly, the whole situation was a little embarrassing. I mean, how can a tutu-loving girl be without her shoes? Thankfully, my dear friend Fiona at the station was able to get me a new pair from a shop around the corner - she is such a life saver!
The journey was packed, and for a second, I thought I'd need to share my precious little pink tutu with someone else. It seems every time I get on a train, I need to strategically wiggle my way into the nearest window seat for the best views. My fellow travellers must think I'm some sort of tutu-wearing fashion queen, flitting through the carriage like a pink-clad fairy, but you know what? I embrace it. Who wouldn't want a touch of pink tutu magic on their journey?
Anyway, back to the reason we're here! Rome! It's everything I dreamt of and more. Just a few hours into this magical city, I already know I'll be adding another page to my pink-tutu-loving adventure diary. We're in an area called Trastevere, known for its cobbled streets, charming shops and, of course, fabulous restaurants. Did I mention gelato yet?
Speaking of fabulous, how gorgeous is my new summer outfit?! I just had to pick up this divine coral and gold silk number from a charming vintage shop just off the main square. I call it my Roman goddess look - with a delicate rose tucked behind my ear and a slightly shimmering pink tutu fluttering with every step. Honestly, it was love at first sight. This outfit has been practically begging for a photoshoot - can you say Instagram-worthy?
I've already had a taste of Rome's ballet scene, watching a wonderful performance at the Teatro dell'Opera. Let me tell you, the dancers were absolutely spectacular! There was a certain magic in the air that night, which always makes my heart flutter. I even snagged a backstage pass after the show and managed to grab a selfie with one of the ballerinas - what a dream!
It's funny, but even when I'm on holiday, my heart is always drawn to those vibrant colours and fabrics that whisper ballerina to me. This weekend, I discovered a fantastic shop with the most beautiful, delicate silks and lace. I couldn't help myself and ended up getting enough material to create a stunning new tutu. I'm already dreaming of the perfect moment to unveil it - perhaps on the ancient cobbled streets of Rome, dancing amongst the history? Now, that would be something to talk about.
But for now, it's time to relax. This city feels so alive and vibrant, a constant melody of sounds and laughter that wraps you in a warm, comforting blanket. There's something magical about Italy. Perhaps it's the sunshine, the friendly faces, or the delicious aroma of freshly baked bread wafting from every corner.
I'm spending the afternoon indulging in a relaxing capuccino while sketching out my latest tutu designs. Maybe later, I'll take a walk through the bustling streets, catching glimpses of Roman history on every corner, or lose myself in a charming trattoria. Who knows what adventures this vibrant city holds for my pink tutu and me?
I promise to share all the exciting discoveries with you next week. Until then, Ciao!
Love,
Emma
