Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! (Post #584)
Buongiorno, my darlings!
This week, your favourite tutu-clad traveller is waltzing through the streets of Rome! That’s right, I’ve traded the rolling hills of Derbyshire for the ancient cobbles and breathtaking architecture of the Eternal City, all in the name of pink and the power of twirling.
This trip has been a dream come true, thanks to a lovely ballet commission in beautiful Tuscany. Who knew a performance for a royal wedding could lead to an unforgettable Roman holiday? But that’s the magic of life, isn’t it? Just when you think you’re stepping into the mundane, a little sprinkle of fairy dust sweeps you off your feet!

Now, before I delve into all the gelato and gossip, let's get back to the "Why Rome?" bit. Besides the obvious reason (did someone say pizza?!), Rome holds a special place in my heart for its vibrant energy. The city pulsates with history, culture, and… ahem… shopping opportunities that could send a girl into a delightful fashion frenzy.
The journey, however, was part of the charm. Arriving by train has to be the most stylish form of travel. It's like stepping into a Parisian film, where every moment feels perfectly orchestrated. The views outside the window – rolling fields, quaint villages, and then finally, the glorious silhouette of Rome against a breathtaking sunset – were utterly magical. I even had the chance to indulge in a cheeky cuppa with a fellow traveller, a fellow tutu aficionado, who just happens to be a retired ballerina! What are the chances?!
So, here we are in Rome! And already, I've been twirling with delight. I haven’t had this much fun since that whirlwind weekend in Paris back in June! My trusty pink tutu is definitely a conversation starter. Everywhere I go, people seem to light up at the sight of its shimmering elegance.
But let's talk details, my lovelies:
Where's Emma staying?
After much consideration (and a couple of cheeky Google searches), I've decided to stay in a charming little boutique hotel in the Trastevere neighbourhood. Think terracotta rooftops, blooming bougainvillea, and the gentle murmur of chatter from the cobblestone streets below. This is the heart of Rome, where centuries-old buildings weave stories and the smell of fresh pasta wafts through the air. Honestly, it's almost impossible not to fall in love with the place.
Fashion in Rome?
My goodness, the shops here are pure fashion heaven! It's like a giant couture bazaar, bursting with silk scarves, delicate jewellery, and hand-painted leather bags. I can't resist popping into the charming little boutiques and vintage shops tucked away in narrow alleys. It's the perfect opportunity to find that unique piece that speaks to my inner fashionista.
Don't forget the food!
We can't talk about Rome without indulging in a little cibo, darlings. Every corner promises a gastronomical adventure. Whether it's a simple yet delicious slice of pizza, a plate of pasta dripping with rich sauce, or the heavenly gelato that makes life worth living - you can't resist the taste of Rome. Even the local bakeries have mastered the art of sweetness, with delicate pastries and cakes that melt in your mouth like a graceful dance.
(Psst, my dearest readers! Did I mention I met a wonderful Roman artist who invited me to visit his studio?! I mean, what else is there to say? This is why I love traveling! I’ll tell you all about it next week. ;))
Here's what Emma's been up to today: 2006-08-16
This morning, after a luxurious breakfast of fresh fruit and crusty bread, I wandered through the Campo de' Fiori, a vibrant marketplace filled with local vendors showcasing everything from exotic spices to handcrafted leather goods.
After picking up a gorgeous, hand-painted ceramic plate (it’s just perfect for displaying my ballet shoes), I treated myself to a divine espresso. The little café was bursting with locals – everyone seemed to know each other, it was lovely.
Later, I took a guided tour of the Colosseum, that magnificent amphitheater of ancient Rome. Walking around its vast arena, I felt a shiver run down my spine as I imagined the roar of the crowds, the gladiatorial fights, the sheer energy of this iconic monument. I even dared to strike a few poses inside - I just had to feel the spirit of this ancient stage!
Tonight, it's a show at the Teatro dell’Opera, and my pink tutu will be dazzling in the opera box. There's a special kind of magic about stepping inside an opera house. It's a symphony of grandeur and artistic passion.
And I can’t wait to tell you all about it! Until then, stay beautiful, darling!
Love, Emma
