Pink Tutu Rome: #586 - The Eternal City in a Pink Tutu

Wednesday 30th August 2006

Ciao, darling! It's your favourite ballerina, Emma, reporting live from the Eternal City - Rome!

I must admit, it feels surreal to be here, a whirlwind of ancient history, beautiful architecture, and of course, gelato. The Italian air hums with romance and history, a tangible energy that seeps into your very being. And you know me, I couldn't let a trip like this go by without adding a touch of my signature sparkle! That's right, my trusty pink tutu has been travelling with me, and I've been causing a stir, or shall I say, a twirl, wherever I go!

It all started with a rather delightful train journey from Derbyshire. As usual, my trusty pink tutu was a perfect travel companion - comfy, breezy, and naturally, a talking point. Even the conductor couldn't resist a smile as I settled in my seat, my tulle trailing dramatically onto the floor like a little pink train of its own.

Now, let's get down to the real reason we're in Rome: the ballet! Of course, I wouldn't be true to my Pink Tutu persona if I didn't explore the local ballet scene. This evening, I'm headed to the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma to watch La Traviata, a tale of love and heartbreak set against the vibrant backdrop of 19th century Paris. I've already managed to find the most incredible pair of pink, feather-trimmed gloves in a little vintage shop near the Pantheon. My outfit? Well, let's just say that the pink tutu will be making an entrance alongside a stunning scarlet lace dress.

Between my ballet obsession, I'm fully immersing myself in the Roman charm. The Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain - I've been snapping pictures like crazy (you can catch them all on my Instagram, by the way!), making a note to remember each landmark in its perfect pink tutu pose. It seems the Romans love a bit of spectacle as much as I do! I even caught a street performance outside the Spanish Steps - a young violinist in a pink tie! Let’s just say he was given a standing ovation, or rather a standing “twirlation”.

Of course, no trip to Rome is complete without indulging in the glorious Italian cuisine. Pasta, pizza, gelato - it's all a delightful explosion of flavours! And what do you pair with a decadent meal, you ask? Well, you guessed it, pink champagne, naturally!

Rome truly has everything - the art, the food, the history, the romance, and yes, even the pink tutus!

Fashion Focus: You simply cannot ignore the vibrant colours and stunning fabrics I've encountered here. This trip has inspired my love for dramatic silhouettes and bold hues. The Italian flair for the dramatic just suits my personality. Keep an eye out for my upcoming “Pink in Rome” fashion collection!

Top Tip: Rome is best explored on foot, and trust me, there will be a lot of walking involved, so pack comfy shoes and, if you’re brave enough to try it, don your favourite tutu for a touch of Italian flair.

Until next Wednesday, darlings, stay pink, stay fabulous!

Emma
