Pink Tutu Rome: Post 591 - A Ballerina's Roman Holiday! (Wednesday 4th October 2006)
Ciao Bella!
It’s Emma from Derbyshire here, your favourite tutu-wearing, ballet-loving blogger, bringing you another instalment of Pink Tutu Rome. This week, I’ve found myself absolutely smitten with the Eternal City. It’s all so charming, full of history and oozing with romance, much like my favourite pink tutu!
Rome has such an incredible mix of ancient wonders and buzzing modern life. Just this morning, I was sipping cappuccinos on the edge of the Roman Forum, picturing the gladiators battling it out centuries ago, then later, found myself shopping in a swanky boutique filled with designer shoes that I can only dream of wearing! (Although a girl can dream, right?)
Speaking of dreams, my week started off on a high with a sensational performance at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. The ballerinas were absolutely stunning, their costumes like floating clouds of silk. And I just had to wear my sparkly, pink tutu to the theatre! It felt so fabulous! I think the other theatre-goers appreciated the extra bit of pink in the audience, though some might have thought I was on the way to a fancy dress party - who knows?!
After the show, I indulged in the delights of Italian cuisine. We all know a girl has to have some gelato to fuel the dancing, right? I tried a lemon and lavender sorbet which was divine, so much more delicious than the ice cream they have back home in Derbyshire! And then we strolled around the Piazza Navona, the bustling street entertainers adding to the vibrant energy of the city. It was like being on stage in a massive street show, but much less stressful for someone like me who loves to watch rather than perform.
But you don't just eat and dance in Rome! We also found ourselves getting lost in the narrow winding streets of the Trastevere district, its cobblestones a symphony of history beneath our feet. The whole place felt like a living, breathing museum. I swear I felt a bit like an extra in a period film! We found ourselves a cute cafe there, and I couldn’t resist picking up a vintage silver necklace, inspired by the ancient Roman coins I saw earlier that day.
And what's a Roman holiday without visiting the Trevi Fountain? Now, I must admit, I have always dreamed of visiting it. Seeing it in real life was breathtaking! Just look at that dramatic cascade of water, that majestic marble... it makes me want to spin and pirouette around in my pink tutu, letting the spray of water create my own theatrical effect! I'm already planning my next trip back to toss a coin over my shoulder and wish for more tutus in the future - you can’t have too many tutus, right?!
The only problem with Rome is trying to squeeze in all the amazing sights and activities. It's a challenge to try and see it all in one trip, but then again, it’s definitely an excuse to come back again and again, right? Maybe next time, I’ll wear my silver and gold tutu... that one would certainly make a statement in Rome, don't you think?
If you are planning a trip to Rome and want some travel tips, why not join me on the www.pink-tutu.com website? There you will find a ton of insights on how to travel like a pink tutu princess on a budget (don’t tell anyone, but it involves a lot of ballet performances!) I even write a post every Wednesday, just like this one, full of inspiration for your own Italian escapades.
Until next Wednesday, stay fabulous and remember: don't forget to add a dash of pink to your everyday!
Lots of love,
Emma (The Pink Tutu Ballerina)
