Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! (Blog Post #593)

Wednesday, 18th October, 2006

Ciao from sunny Rome! It's Emma here, and as you know, it's Wednesday, which means it's time for another exciting Pink Tutu travel post! Today, I'm finally venturing into the heart of the Eternal City, and you can bet your sparkly ballet shoes, this pink tutu's going to be turning heads!

The Roman Express:

I woke up this morning feeling like a little ballerina butterfly fluttering with anticipation. You know how much I love train journeys, and this trip was no exception. The journey from Florence to Rome on the Frecciarossa train was pure magic. The Italian countryside, dotted with vineyards and olive groves, rolled by in a kaleidoscope of golden and ochre colours. I spent the time planning my outfits for the week, writing down all the famous sights I wanted to see, and, of course, making sure my tutu was perfectly ironed and ready to twirl!

My Pink Tutu Palace:

Speaking of the tutu, it's a real showstopper - a gorgeous shade of bubblegum pink with a cloud of soft, billowing tulle. The perfect companion for a whirlwind exploration of Rome! My hotel is absolutely adorable; it's called the “Hotel dei Girasoli" - which translates to "The Sunflower Hotel" - and it's decorated in a delightful Italianate style with sunny yellow walls and charming, flowery balconies. And guess what? It's just a stone's throw away from the Trevi Fountain! It felt like stepping into a dream - the perfect haven after a busy morning on the train.

Pink Power in the Eternal City:

After settling in, I knew exactly what I needed to do - unleash the pink power upon Rome! My first stop was the Trevi Fountain, a magical spectacle bathed in golden light. I had the most amazing moment standing by the fountain, watching the sunlight play on the cascading water and listening to the wishes being whispered into the air. I even made a wish for more pink tutus in the world! You know, spreading the tutu love and inspiring everyone to embrace their inner ballerina.

The Trevi fountain was, without doubt, a moment of sheer magic, but I had a date with history – The Colosseum. I must confess, I've been dreaming about seeing this incredible piece of ancient architecture for ages, and it did not disappoint. As I gazed upon those magnificent ruins, it was like stepping back in time. Imagine the energy and history that must have resonated from this iconic structure. I even spotted a cute street performer dressed in a toga, complete with a little gladiator helmet! It reminded me of all those wonderful Roman History classes back in Derbyshire.

Shopping with a Pink Twist:

After the Colosseum, I couldn't resist exploring the bustling streets of the city. Shopping, of course, is always on the agenda! The beautiful window displays in Rome's fashion houses inspired me - elegant, timeless designs with a distinct Italian flair. I’m thinking a pink silk scarf might make the perfect souvenir, with the gorgeous colours and patterns of Roman mosaics woven through the silk. I imagine it would look fabulous with my ballet attire for a casual yet elegant ensemble.

Dancing on Italian Streets:

As dusk settled over Rome, I felt the urge to dance. What better way to express the joy and energy of the city than by incorporating my ballet into the day's exploration? I stopped at a quaint little plaza filled with laughter, music, and delicious aromas of freshly baked pizza and gelato. Under the flickering streetlights, I slipped into my favourite ballet moves – pliés, relevés, and even a pirouette or two! The reactions from passers-by were delightful. Some folks even stopped and applauded! It was like having a mini performance right there on the Roman streets.

Ballet Bliss:

Tonight, I'm catching the "Giselle" ballet at the Teatro dell'Opera. This will be my fifth "Giselle" since the tour began and I'm eagerly anticipating seeing it performed with such a world-class troupe of dancers. Imagine a beautiful, airy set designed by Italian artists! This is ballet magic at its finest!

Sharing the Love:

I can't wait to share all the details of this enchanting performance in next week’s blog post. Until then, let’s spread the pink tutu love, embrace the joy of movement, and keep the dream of a tutu-filled world alive! Remember, everyone can be a ballerina – no matter what size, shape, or age. Don’t forget to share your own tutu stories on my Pink Tutu blog – your words are inspiring!

Ciao, ciao for now!

PS: I just spotted a cute little pink ballerina doll in one of the gift shops - she has a gorgeous silk tutu and sparkling red slippers! Maybe I should make her my little mascot on this Roman adventure. I'm already thinking about all the adorable photoshoots I can do with her in all the magnificent places I visit! More on this soon, stay tuned!
