Pink Tutu Rome: Week 602 - Exploring the Eternal City in a Whirl of Pink!

Ciao, darlings! Emma here, reporting live from the glorious city of Rome! I’m writing this post whilst sipping on a delicious cappuccino in a sun-drenched café, and already my heart is brimming with Italian inspiration. This week’s adventure is all about the magic of Rome, its historical wonders, delectable food, and of course, my trusty pink tutu, which, as you all know, goes everywhere with me!

You see, I’m living proof that a touch of pink, a playful twirl, and a good dose of travel can turn any ordinary Wednesday into a truly extraordinary day.

Train Travels and the Beauty of Rome

This trip was all about train travel, my favourite way to experience a new place. The journey from Derbyshire was a joy – watching the countryside change as I zoomed through fields of golden wheat and charming villages. It felt like I was stepping into a fairytale! The anticipation of arriving in Rome built up as we rolled into the bustling Termini station – I could feel the vibrancy of the city coursing through my veins.

My hotel, a charming little gem just a hop skip and a jump from the Pantheon, greeted me with open arms. They had a tiny terrace with views of the city that was just perfect for me to do a quick ballet warm-up session before heading out for the evening.

Roman Adventures: Food, Fashion and Fantastic Finds!

Now, who wouldn’t love a city where the gelato is divine, the pasta is divine and even the coffee is divine? My heart skipped a beat at the first whiff of freshly baked focaccia coming from a local bakery – pure perfection! It’s no surprise that Italian cuisine is my absolute weakness! I sampled all the classic Roman dishes: a carbonara to die for, mouthwatering bruschetta, and a simple yet sublime plate of fresh spaghetti pomodoro – the ultimate comfort food!

Speaking of comfort food, my first order of business in Rome was finding a good dancewear store. I'm a girl who likes to be prepared, especially when it comes to ballet outfits! So I wandered through the charming little shops in the Trastevere area and stumbled upon a hidden gem - "La Ballerina". It was brimming with gorgeous leotards, tulle skirts, and even a few tutus – some pink, some not so much – but I did manage to snag a couple of gorgeous pieces that are going to become my new favourite stage outfits.

My trip to Rome coincided with a street performance festival - "Roma in Scena" - and oh boy, was it fabulous! Every corner of the city had impromptu ballet performances, musical acts, and vibrant street art that breathed life into the ancient Roman cobblestones. It was like a celebration of creativity, and I felt myself dancing along to the music, even if it was just in my head!

A Day of Cultural Delights and Pink Tutu Glamour

For a day trip, we ventured out to the enchanting Vatican City, its grandeur and architectural marvels leaving me speechless. I could have spent hours exploring St. Peter's Basilica alone. The awe-inspiring grandeur of the place just took my breath away. As always, I couldn’t help but feel that the beauty of the Vatican and the grace of a ballerina are perfectly intertwined – they both represent the pinnacle of artistry and skill. And to really get my pink tutu into the spirit of things, I popped into the Vatican Museums, a real treat for any history and art lover. They housed some seriously impressive masterpieces and an array of beautiful sculptures. It’s amazing how centuries-old artistry still resonates with such beauty.

The Roman Colosseum was another stop on our list – what an epic reminder of Rome's glorious past. It's simply a monumental feat of architecture. The stories I could tell from the stories engraved on these stones… The ghosts of Roman gladiators seem to linger, their presence palpable as you wander around this ancient monument. My pink tutu even caught the eye of a street artist, who immortalized my swirling, whimsical form in a charcoal drawing. I’ll have to frame it!

Final Thoughts

I truly feel like Rome stole a piece of my heart! It’s a vibrant and magical city with so much to offer: delicious food, amazing art, fascinating history, and some pretty spectacular fashion too. It really felt like stepping back in time whilst still keeping a toe-tapping rhythm of the modern world! This trip solidified the fact that wherever I go, I’m bringing my love of dance, my pink tutus, and of course, a positive, sparkly outlook! Until next week, darlings, stay pink, stay sassy and stay inspired!

P.S. Remember, it's only a matter of time before the whole world will be wearing a pink tutu. And you know what? I'll be right there cheering you on! 😉
