Pink Tutu Rome: Post 714 - Wednesday 11th February 2009 - Exploring Eternal Beauty!

Ciao Bella! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad ballerina, Emma, back with another instalment of my Rome adventures, brought to you straight from the cobbled streets of the Eternal City! As always, you can find my Roman musings on my lovely blog, www.pink-tutu.com, every Wednesday.

Today was all about experiencing Rome's unique charm - a whirlwind of beautiful buildings, charming trattorias, and endless gelato opportunities! This city is bursting with history, art, and captivating stories just waiting to be discovered. I even managed to snag a pair of gorgeous leather ballet flats, perfect for exploring the ancient city's labyrinthine streets. You know me, always on the lookout for the perfect pink tutu accessory!

This week's journey was made even more special thanks to a particularly delightful performance at Teatro dell'Opera di Roma - a stunning production of La Bayadère! I can’t even begin to describe the artistry, the sheer brilliance of it all! I danced along with the principal dancers in my head - every pirouette, every graceful leap, mirrored in my own heart. It's always inspiring to see how these incredibly talented performers can transform their passion into art, transporting the audience to another world.

Before the show, of course, a spot of shopping at the incredible Via Condotti! You simply can't visit Rome without dipping into its chic fashion scene. My heart went pitter-patter at the sight of beautiful Italian fabrics, the intricate details of the craftsmanship, and of course, the stunning shoes! I managed to find the perfect addition to my pink tutu wardrobe - a pair of exquisite, handmade ballet flats in a delicious shade of dusty rose, fit for a princess.

But the real highlight of the day wasn't the ballet or the shopping (though I definitely appreciated both!) - it was the most extraordinary slice of pizza I've ever tasted! It came from a tiny, unassuming trattoria just off the beaten path, tucked away in a quaint alleyway. I've been all over the world, tasting various culinary delights, but this pizza was something special - the perfect harmony of fresh ingredients, bubbling with flavour, and topped with just the right amount of mozzarella. Pure magic on a plate!

After the show, I was in a dreamlike state, buzzing from the music, the vibrant energy of the theatre, and of course, the delicious pizza! The warm night air smelled of blooming jasmine, the ancient city around me seemed to be bathed in a soft, golden glow. It was the kind of evening that just made you smile, even without a pink tutu in sight.

Speaking of tutus, I'm starting to see my vision of a pink tutu world come to life here in Rome! Everywhere I go, I see snippets of its influence, in the soft, flowing lines of Italian fabrics, the rosy hue of sunset kissing the ancient stones, and even the subtle shades of pink found in the intricate mosaics adorning the city's most iconic buildings. The city seems to embrace pink with its heart and soul - perhaps it’s just a feeling, but it definitely feels like a city that would be right at home with a tutu or two.

Tomorrow, I'm off to explore the ancient wonders of the Colosseum - I hear it's truly breathtaking. You know me, always on the lookout for inspiring stories and a touch of ballet history! I'll be sharing more photos and musings on my blog next week. Until then, happy twirling!

Much love and sparkly wishes,

Emma xx
