#PinkTutuRome - Post #737: Dancing Through Rome in Pink

Ciao from the Eternal City! It’s Wednesday, the 22nd of July 2009, and this pink tutu is spinning with excitement. It’s been a whirlwind of sightseeing and fashion this week, so grab your cappuccinos (mine's a large with an extra shot of sugar, naturally), and get comfy – it's going to be a long and fabulous one!

Last week, I was bidding farewell to the rolling hills and quaint villages of Derbyshire, England. The countryside felt so serene, yet Rome’s energy has been magnetic, drawing me into its ancient embrace. And what an embrace it is! The cobblestone streets, the fragrant flowers tumbling over terracotta pots, the endless cafes bursting with laughter - it's like stepping into a painting, or a dreamy ballet scene!

Riding the Rails

I simply love the romance of train travel, especially in Europe! It’s such an adventure, each journey a miniature theatrical performance, full of unexpected characters and vibrant landscapes. Stepping off the Eurostar at Termini station, with its vaulted ceilings and echoing trains, I felt a surge of excitement. This city whispered tales of emperors and gladiators, and I couldn't wait to lose myself in its labyrinthine beauty.

Pink Paradise

Before anything else, a quick trip to the Via Condotti for a little retail therapy was essential! I swear, you can practically smell the haute couture here, the air positively humming with style and creativity. A stop at Dolce & Gabbana's boutique, with its vibrant florals and delicate laces, was a must. A little something pink for the wardrobe – a silky blush top paired with a flowy coral skirt – seemed absolutely perfect for exploring the historical charm of Rome. And the way the delicate fabric swirled and flounced as I strolled through the cobbled streets? Pure ballet bliss!

An Evening of Opera and Glamour

On my first night in Rome, I treated myself to a spectacular opera at the Teatro dell’Opera. I felt like I'd been transported to another world, with soaring melodies, dazzling costumes, and an orchestra that filled the theatre with an exquisite tapestry of sound. The sheer energy of the performance was exhilarating. The lead ballerina, her graceful movements echoing a captivating story, left me utterly spellbound. As for the costumes, they were sheer works of art, each intricate stitch radiating pure glamour. My mind raced with inspiration! I simply cannot wait to weave some of the grandeur of this opera into my own ballet routines back in England.

Artful Escapes

Rome, of course, is overflowing with architectural wonders, each one a masterpiece of history. The Colosseum stands majestically, a monument to Roman might. Every nook and cranny tells a story, a testament to a civilisation long gone, yet echoing in the spirit of this modern city. The Pantheon, with its breathtaking dome, made me gasp, its proportions so grand, so beautifully balanced. I spent a dreamy afternoon at the Galleria Borghese, lost in the serene beauty of Bernini's sculptures, their smooth marble limbs a symphony of artistic expression.

Tutu Takeover: My Pink Romp Around Rome

Now, my darlings, you know I can’t be in such a vibrant city without some serious Tutu time! For my afternoon exploring, I slipped on a delicate tulle tutu, the fabric flowing around me with a graceful swoosh. I’m starting to believe my mission to have the world embrace the pink tutu is starting to work! I spotted a local family having a picnic at a cafe near the Spanish Steps – imagine my delight when I saw their young daughter sporting a vibrant pink tulle tutu! A wave of happy pink-tutu solidarity rushed through me!

And yes, I know it may seem silly, this pink tutu of mine. But in my eyes, it’s a symbol of freedom, a way to express yourself, a way to make life a little more joyful, a little more whimsical. Wearing it allows me to be carefree, to move with confidence and grace, and to find magic in the ordinary.

Foodie Adventures

No journey to Rome would be complete without savoring its culinary delights. I've indulged in the most decadent gelato (lemon, of course, my all-time favourite!), fresh pasta at tiny hole-in-the-wall trattorias, and the most exquisite tiramisu, its layers of cream and coffee like a dream.

Fashion Inspiration Everywhere

From the vibrant street style to the opulent galleries, Rome has been a kaleidoscope of fashion inspiration. The locals effortlessly blend vintage pieces with modern trends, creating looks that are chic yet effortlessly cool. It’s truly a sartorial playground.

And of course, I’ve been picking up some chic additions to my wardrobe: a vintage scarf from a bustling market in Trastevere, a pair of exquisite Italian leather sandals that dance with my steps, and a stunning linen dress perfect for summer soirees.

Tomorrow, another adventure awaits!

Maybe a trip to the Trevi Fountain to toss a coin and wish for another amazing ballet performance in Rome, perhaps a visit to the Catacombs for some spooky yet intriguing history, or maybe even a class at one of the city's esteemed ballet schools! It’s an exciting time in Rome, my friends, and I'm savouring every single moment.

Until next Wednesday, stay sparkly and wear a pink tutu (if you dare!).

Ciao!

Emma
