Pink Tutu Rome: Post #805 – "Ciao Bella, Roma!"

Hello my lovely Tutu Twirlers! It’s Emma here, reporting live from the heart of Rome! I finally made it to this majestic city after a thrilling train journey across Europe (as you know, trains are my absolute favourite mode of transport!), and my first impression is WOW!

I have to admit, Rome’s like stepping onto a giant film set. Everywhere I look, it's a blend of ancient ruins and vibrant modern life, like a perfectly-choreographed ballet where the Colosseum is the centre stage. The cobblestone streets are my personal red carpet, and I can’t resist twirling with every step, my pink tutu a beacon of fun and frivolity.

This trip has been in the works for months! I mean, who wouldn’t dream of dancing their way through this glorious city, taking in its timeless charm and incredible energy? I’ve already had some wonderful ballet moments in Rome. The Rome Opera House, "Teatro dell'Opera di Roma", is a true beauty, with its grand chandeliers, intricate mouldings and the aura of centuries past. Seeing a performance here feels like time travel - I closed my eyes for a second and I imagined I was one of the original patrons back in the day!

It was a truly unforgettable experience, and as you know, I am obsessed with all things ballet. It’s my life's passion, the reason I travel, and it's how I fund these incredible adventures, all with the help of my dancing. From stage performances to street ballet and workshops, every twirl brings me closer to my ultimate goal: to have the whole world wear a pink tutu! It may seem far-fetched, but trust me, when you feel the freedom and joy of a good pirouette, it's simply infectious.

This trip wouldn't be complete without embracing the true spirit of Roman fashion! I'm talking elegant jumpsuits that channel Sophia Loren’s timeless grace, statement shoes in bold hues that would make Audrey Hepburn envious, and fabrics as luxurious as a flamenco dancer's dress. Every street corner feels like a designer boutique. I even treated myself to some exquisite vintage pieces in the charming Trastevere neighbourhood, a mish-mash of bohemian charm and history that feels straight out of a fairy tale.

I mean, how can I resist? The streets themselves are a spectacle! There’s such a richness to it, from the classic sculptures to the street performers, to the lively conversations spilling out of cafes - the whole city pulsates with this artistic energy. You simply can’t help but get caught up in the rhythm, the colour, the passion that swirls through every corner.

My biggest goal on this trip is to find the most enchanting spots for a perfect tutu picture. Now, this isn’t just a fashion statement; it’s an opportunity to inspire others to express themselves, to see the world through a lens of wonder and creativity. It's about embracing life’s grand stages with a sense of whimsy, grace, and a little bit of magic.

Rome is absolutely living up to the hype, it’s a beautiful blend of modern and traditional, all tied together with this breathtaking art and history that makes every single day feel like a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. I’m savouring every second!

Here are my top highlights from this incredible city, in the true style of a Pink Tutu adventure:

1. A Tumbling Tumbling Time! I decided to start my day with a visit to the "Circo Massimo", which is actually a giant open-air stadium with some spectacular ruins of a magnificent building. This was once a giant chariot racing stadium, a symbol of ancient Roman power! The perfect backdrop for a good old-fashioned twirling ballet routine. I felt like I was transported back in time, as if I was dancing among emperors and gladiators.

2. My Roman Holiday in The Eternal City! Every corner is bursting with history and beauty! Imagine strolling through the legendary Roman Forum, listening to the echoes of ancient times while catching glimpses of the Colosseum in the distance, or relaxing by the beautiful Trevi Fountain and throwing a coin to ensure a return to this magical city - it was absolutely phenomenal!

3. Eating, Shopping, And Oh, My Darling... Food is definitely at the heart of the Roman experience. This city's renowned for its fresh ingredients and bold flavours! There are countless trattorias (that's what they call restaurants in Italy!) that tempt your taste buds with classic dishes, creamy pasta dishes with rich tomato sauce, the classic pizza Margherita - yum! You could literally eat your way around the whole city! Then of course there is the beautiful Italian shopping - my shopping bags were bulging by the end of my trip! It's hard not to pick up some fabulous silk scarves, handmade leather handbags, and elegant lace pieces that perfectly encapsulate Roman style! And you cannot leave without buying a gelato from one of the famous ice cream parlours.

4. The Beauty Of Art! Rome is known as the home to so much beauty and it truly lives up to its name. We saw masterpieces of Renaissance art at the Galleria Borghese and enjoyed the serene gardens! A lot of the amazing paintings we saw were filled with classical poses that could only come from studying the ballet. A dancer is simply an extension of all these forms of art and their elegant beauty! It made my heart swell to see such elegant and beautiful work.

5. On To The Dance Floor! Of course, no trip would be complete without seeing a performance, and tonight, I’m catching a ballet performance by the Rome Ballet Company. I’m already excited to see the incredible dancers and stunning choreography in this elegant theatre. It's been a joy experiencing Rome's lively arts scene.

As my stay here winds down, my tutu collection (yes, it's extensive!) feels strangely complete with this Roman flair. But just like the Colosseum standing proudly in the heart of the city, my Pink Tutu spirit will always be here, waiting for the next performance, the next adventure. And I know you’ll be with me, twirling right along the way. I promise to be back next Wednesday with even more Pink Tutu adventures! Ciao for now, and stay beautiful!
