Pink Tutu Rome - #949 - August 14th 2013: Bella Italia, Baby!

Ciao, darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina back with another week of adventures! This week I'm in Rome, a city of breathtaking beauty and even more breathtaking gelato (have you tried pistachio flavour? You simply must!), and I can already tell it's going to be one of my most magical journeys yet.

How I Got Here - A Train Story:

Remember how I said I love trains? Well, let's just say my journey to Italy was no exception! This week, I travelled from Derbyshire, my charming little corner of England, all the way to Rome by train. It was a whirlwind of scenery ā€“ rolling green fields giving way to towering snow-capped mountains, with little quaint villages dotted in between. And who knew the Italian countryside was so full of vineyards? The views from my train window were straight out of a fairytale!

Speaking of fairytale, the moment I stepped onto the platform at Rome Termini station, I was hit with a wave of excitement! This place buzzes with energy - a beautiful mix of classic Roman charm and modern-day bustle. Everywhere I looked, I was surrounded by stunning architecture, terracotta roofs, and streets teeming with laughter, gelato-loving locals and tourists from all corners of the globe. I swear, I even saw a couple wearing matching pink tutus, how sweet is that! (Let's be honest, it probably wasn't a couple. They were probably both part of my Tutu Movement! Join us, lovelies!)

My Rome Itinerary:

Rome has so much to offer, so let's dive right into my schedule, shall we? I'm going to make sure this trip is jam-packed with all things beautiful, delicious and, of course, balletic. I've done a lot of research to ensure that Iā€™m getting the best of the best of Italy, just for you guys. Iā€™ve got a packed itinerary that's gonna involve the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, all the gelato shops (a necessary duty, wouldn't you agree?), a breathtaking ballet performance, and probably more shopping than I can possibly handle - letā€™s be honest, who can resist a little retail therapy? (And by a little, I mean a lot, but don't worry, I'll keep you updated on all my latest finds!)

Fashion Forward in the Eternal City:

Now, what would a trip to Rome be without embracing a bit of the local style, right? Think chic palazzo pants, breezy silk blouses, and effortlessly stylish statement jewellery. The Italian women know how to make elegance look effortless, and letā€™s just say my wardrobeā€™s ready for a seriously glamorous upgrade! This weekend, I even snagged the most stunning pair of white leather ballerina flats that scream ā€œRome!ā€ (Just imagine them with a pink tutu - divine, wouldn't you say?) I am seriously inspired.

The Magic of Rome:

The Romans take their gelato seriously, but they also have a true appreciation for art and beauty. One thing I was struck by is how the city seamlessly blends its rich history with the vibrancy of modern-day life. Every corner feels like a page from a storybook, with cobblestone streets leading to hidden squares overflowing with life and laughter. The Romans, by the way, are super welcoming and friendly - they even speak amazing English, and trust me, their accent is way more glamorous than ours (don't be jealous!).

A Ballerina's Dream: Tonightā€™s Show:

But this post isnā€™t just about food, fashion, and fun - it's about ballet, of course! Today, I went to a spectacular ballet performance at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma! It was absolutely divine, with the most breathtaking choreography and the dancers' grace, well, it just blew my mind! It was just the right amount of drama and passion, reminding me of why I love this art form so much. Afterwards, we wandered the enchanting cobblestone streets of Trastevere, full of hidden cafes and charming boutiques ā€“ oh, and of course, gelato stops along the way.

Where I'm staying:

Oh, did I mention that my apartment has a gorgeous little balcony overlooking the rooftops? I can see all of the way to the Vatican, talk about a picturesque view. Itā€™s got all the charm of an old Italian villa, and even better, itā€™s only a five-minute walk from the Colosseum! So, it's the perfect location for my explorations. (And of course, itā€™s got ample space for me to practise my twirls, and even better, to wear a pink tutu at every opportunity - you know thatā€™s my mission!)

Keep up with My Adventures!

Iā€™m just getting started in Rome, darlings! I have so much more to see, to explore, and of course, to shop!
