Pink Tutu Rome: #1334 – Where the Trevi Fountain Meets My Tutu

Helloooo, my beautiful Tutu Tribe! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another dose of pink-tutu-tastic adventures from yours truly, Emma, your favourite ballerina-blogger from Derbyshire, ready to share my love for all things fabulous, frilly, and undeniably pink.

This week, I'm bringing you sunshine, gelato, and, of course, the iconic beauty of Rome. It's been a whirlwind of Roman charm, with every cobbled street and ancient ruin whispering tales of emperors and artists. But the best part? This glorious city feels like the perfect backdrop for my latest pink tutu mission: getting everyone in Rome – and the whole world – to twirl in a tutu, pink or otherwise!

Now, I know what you're thinking – what does a tutu have to do with the Colosseum? Absolutely nothing, you say! But trust me, my lovelies, Rome has already proven to be the perfect blend of history, culture, and pure, unadulterated joy – ingredients that just beg to be sprinkled with a dash of tutu magic.

This week, Rome was all about embracing the vibrant energy of the city, catching up on some Italian fashion (the dresses here are divine!) and indulging in the sheer luxury of wandering through museums filled with priceless masterpieces.

Let’s take a look at some of the highlights of this week in Rome:

The Roman Holiday of a Ballerina’s Dreams

We all know that iconic Audrey Hepburn film "Roman Holiday," right? This week, I decided to have my own version. Except I wasn't quite so rebellious about it, I was fully embracing my own, whimsical approach. This started with a leisurely afternoon, gliding through the enchanting Borghese Gallery, which felt like stepping into a painted canvas brought to life. I was particularly captivated by the breathtaking Bernini sculptures and the awe-inspiring Caravaggio masterpieces.

That evening, it was time to experience the legendary Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, home to some of the most celebrated operas and ballets in the world. My heart was soaring with anticipation as the beautiful melodies of “La Traviata” filled the majestic space. There’s truly nothing quite like witnessing live performance art in such a setting.

You wouldn’t believe it, but before heading into the Teatro dell'Opera, I managed to get some fabulous street-style shots with a street performer! He had an amazing guitar and I thought we were quite the pair - a tutu and guitar - pretty classic, don’t you think? He was pretty pleased when I handed him a small gift – I even threw in a pink ribbon and a feather boa for good measure!

Tutus & Trastevere: Where Elegance Meets Energy

I can't say I've ever travelled without a ballet class in sight – my tutus are as much a part of my luggage as my trusty pink suitcase, so of course, finding a class was top of my agenda.

Thankfully, Rome did not disappoint! Nestled within the charming Trastevere district, I found myself captivated by the grace and passion of the instructors at "DanzaRoma" – my Italian was not perfect, but we danced together and created a beautiful symphony of movement and shared joy. You could say my dancing was a sight to see, particularly since my pink tutu perfectly complemented the warm, bohemian energy of this colourful neighbourhood.

I confess, I did manage to find a little gem of a boutique in Trastevere, filled with handmade Italian lace and luxurious silks – how could I possibly leave without a few new treasures to add to my growing collection of fashion delights?

Of course, any exploration of Trastevere wouldn't be complete without experiencing its charming trattorias and the intoxicating aroma of fresh pasta. It's where Rome's authentic soul shines, and the food is just divine. The tagliatelle with bolognese was especially scrumptious, with just the right amount of creamy, tomatoey goodness!

Pink Tutus in the Pantheon: A Moment of Serenity

This week was a whirl, but in amongst all the chaos, I made sure to take some time to appreciate the simple joys. It felt natural to head to the Pantheon – this incredible dome shaped building filled with such powerful history. It felt surreal to walk among such ancient and enduring architecture, and my pink tutu somehow seemed to float effortlessly through this sacred space.

Perhaps it was the serene beauty of this place that brought a profound sense of peace and contemplation.

It got me thinking… Isn't that the beauty of a pink tutu – it embodies that sense of joy, energy and freedom that is at the core of Rome? So, with every twirl and flourish, my tutu seems to be whispering tales of joy and elegance.

Rome, Ciao! It’s Been a Fairy-tale

And with that, dear friends, another week of my pink tutu adventures comes to a close. Rome has left a permanent impression on me – this ancient, captivating city has ignited my passion for life, travel and of course, twirling! I'm filled with such gratitude and inspiration as I say farewell for now.

Rome, you will always hold a special place in my heart, where my pink tutu felt right at home. Until next week, my lovelies!

See you on Pink Tutu Rome next Wednesday, on the 6th of January! Stay sparkly, my dears!
