Pink Tutu Rome: Post #1339 - La Dolce Vita in a Tutu!

Buongiorno from sunny Rome! It's Emma here, and let me tell you, I am living my best life this week. It's been a while since I've posted a blog from Italy, but the lure of gelato, fashion, and, of course, ballet has brought me back to this vibrant city!

You see, the allure of a new place is simply irresistible when you're a Pink Tutu blogger like myself. It's all about exploring the world, and in doing so, finding unique ways to share the pink tutu magic. Rome is brimming with culture, history, and even some surprisingly good ballet. And it wouldn't be a true Pink Tutu adventure if I didn't get to flaunt my favourite pink tulle.

Now, before you think I'm all about frills and fairy dust, let's be clear – my pink tutus are more than just costumes; they're statements, they're accessories, they're conversation starters! And when you wear a pink tutu with confidence, as I do, it makes you feel unstoppable, even in the heart of the Eternal City.

My Travel Diary

Day One: Arriving in Rome

Stepping off the train (I am a big fan of train travel, it's such a calming and immersive way to see a new country), my eyes lit up like a Christmas tree at the sight of Rome Termini Station. The hustle and bustle of the city, the aroma of coffee and pastries, the gorgeous stone buildings – it was pure magic! I whipped out my pink tutu (the new one I got from Tutus Galore, a shop near my home in Derbyshire - definitely check them out) and posed for a selfie outside the station. Because, why not, right? The sheer joy of wearing my favourite tutus never ceases to amaze me.

Day Two: Exploring Ancient Wonders

Who needs a time machine when you can walk around ancient ruins? The Colosseum is majestic, a testament to Rome's history and resilience. My pink tutu didn't get in the way at all! I also fell in love with the Roman Forum. I even tried on my tutu on the Pantheon for a good laugh, the acoustics in there were great, I actually did a little twirl! I could almost feel the whispers of centuries past in the air, the echoes of emperors and gladiators. What an amazing feeling!

Day Three: A Touch of Culture

Now, if you know me, you know I'm a big fan of all things theatre, especially ballet! The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma was definitely on my list. The performance of “Swan Lake” was breathtaking. The ballerinas danced with such grace, elegance, and power - their skills were astounding, a true inspiration for a dancer like myself. There was even a little boy in the audience who was so enthralled by the dancing he started a little "twirl" on his own! That reminded me how much joy and magic the theatre holds, it was like he was taking a step into his own fairytale.

Day Four: Indulge, Indulge, Indulge!

What's a trip to Italy without a good old fashioned Italian indulgence? Rome is heaven for foodies! Fresh pasta, wood-fired pizzas, delectable gelatos... I have to say the Italian people take food so seriously, I even saw a sign in a little Italian coffee shop that said "coffee takes time, be patient". My friend Amy even challenged me to see how much gelato I could fit into one day, and so far, I am winning! We even tried out that chocolate cafe with all the fancy designs that was in "Roman Holiday"! My favourite gelato flavours have been strawberry, hazelnut and a super tangy limoncello.

Day Five: Fashion is Everywhere

Okay, if you're thinking Rome doesn't do fashion, you're so wrong! Every shop window was an art piece in itself. You could spend hours window shopping on the Via Condotti, admiring the designer boutiques and chic displays. It's hard not to get carried away! We ended up doing a photo shoot in a fashion studio, wearing matching pink tutus, obviously! It was a bit like "The Devil Wears Prada", but with tutus.

Day Six: A Glimpse into History

A visit to the Vatican is essential. The grandeur and artistry of St. Peter's Basilica leave you in awe. I got a little distracted in the gift shop, there were some gorgeous silk pink scarves I could've bought them all! But then I thought it might get heavy in my pink tutu carrying bag... The Sistine Chapel with its breathtaking ceilings, a true masterpiece, had to be experienced. And I was in my element in the Vatican Gardens, with their manicured lawns, serene fountains, and sculptures, it felt like stepping into a peaceful haven.

Day Seven: Departure, with a Tutu Twist

As my trip to Rome drew to a close, I boarded the train with a heart filled with gratitude for the magic that unfolds in this city. You know what they say about Rome: "All roads lead to Rome." I have a feeling this isn't my last visit. My advice to anyone travelling to Rome: Don't be afraid to let your inner ballerina shine, pack a pink tutu and a little sass.

My Favourite Rome Moments

  • A beautiful couple we met asked us to join them in dancing in a cobbled side street – a impromptu tango in the middle of the night.
  • Sharing a slice of tiramisu with a local artisan. We both ended up giggling as it went everywhere, that’s the beauty of spontaneous adventures, just going with the flow and enjoying the moment.
  • Spending the evening wandering through the Trastevere district, lost in a maze of cobbled streets, charming cafes and lively trattorias.

    This Week's Inspiration

And finally, my message to you this week? Don't be afraid to embrace your own unique style, to express yourself. Wear a pink tutu, wear your heart on your sleeve, be bold, be confident, be you! Remember, your life is a story – make it the most magical and wonderful story you can!

Stay pink and twirl on,

Emma xoxo
