Ciao bella! ☀️ It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu travel adventure, and this week, we're tres chic in the heart of Italy - Rome! I've been dreaming of a Roman holiday for years, and the Pink Tutu is finally in the Eternal City!
It wouldn't be a Pink Tutu trip without a dash of dramatic entrance. So, as my train pulled into Termini station, I was there, ready for the world to see: pink tutu, pink suitcase, and my best 'pinkalicious' smile! (Okay, let's be real - I was secretly a bit apprehensive, worried about looking out of place amidst the sophisticated Roman crowd...but who am I kidding? It's a Pink Tutu, we thrive on turning heads! 😜).
A Pink Princess' Guide to Rome
Rome has a certain je ne sais quoi that just pulls you in, whether you're an art connoisseur, history buff, or just someone who likes a good gelato (oh yes, we’ll be talking gelato soon enough!).
I'm making the most of my time here - sightseeing, exploring, shopping, and of course, adding my signature Pink Tutu touch to every photo op. I'm already obsessed with the beautiful architecture, the charm of the winding cobbled streets, and the endless charm of Roman life. The whole city feels like it's waiting to be discovered!
From Ballet to Borghese
But before we get too caught up in the glam of Roman fashion (don't worry, there's plenty of that to come!), I wanted to share with you what I did on Wednesday, 22nd June 2022.
The morning began with a magical ballet session at Roma Ballet in Trastevere. A vibrant and inviting studio with stunning vaulted ceilings - it was like stepping into a fairy tale! The lesson itself was an incredible experience. They teach classical ballet, which is so graceful, and the instructors were just wonderful. My legs were wobbly by the end, but in a good way! It’s always such a joy to dance, especially when surrounded by so much beauty. 🩰
Later, I headed to the Galleria Borghese - a museum filled with masterpieces from Caravaggio, Bernini, and Raphael. While a touch more understated than some of the Roman grandeur, it's worth a visit to immerse yourself in Italian artistry. (Oh, and let’s not forget the beautiful gardens – another excuse for photo ops in my Pink Tutu, naturally!).
Rome by Night: A Feast for the Senses
As the evening rolled in, it was time for the most exciting part of my Roman adventure - a ballet performance at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma! I felt like I was entering another world, the whole atmosphere was breathtaking. This theatre is absolutely stunning, full of opulent decorations and the grandeur you'd expect from Italy's premier opera house. The performance itself was magical – a poignant ballet adaptation of Giselle. There were so many layers to the story – love, betrayal, forgiveness – it just blew me away. I couldn't stop thinking about it after it finished.
The experience at the opera house truly exemplified the magic of Italian culture and the passion that permeates every corner of Rome. From the enchanting performances to the lively atmosphere of the piazza, the evening just cemented the fact that Rome truly is a city for all senses!
The Pink Tutu and Roman Glamour
You know I couldn't come to Rome without diving head-first into the fashion scene. The streets are like a runway! The colour palette of Rome itself is inspiring. You’ll see bold yellows, burnt oranges, and beautiful greens around every corner. There's also something magical about the vintage stores here. The atmosphere feels truly unique. You could spend hours browsing and digging through the hidden treasures! I found the perfect scarf at Ciak - a vintage haven tucked away near Campo de' Fiori. The colour perfectly matches my favourite pair of shoes and adds the perfect touch of pink to my Roman outfits!
And naturally, the Pink Tutu isn't complete without the food! I am making my way through all the typical Roman dishes, from the mouth-watering cacio e pepe (heavenly creamy pasta!), to the delicious pizza at Pizzeria Romana (pizza perfection!), to the rich and delicious tiramisu. I've been indulging my sweet tooth in all the delicious local ice creams, from gelato to sorbet - all a little more decadent than I’m used to back in Derbyshire, but the flavour is unbeatable!
The Power of the Pink Tutu
It’s always a whirlwind to be in such an inspiring city. But this time in Rome, there's a feeling of extra excitement. Something feels different here. Maybe it's the pink tutu? Maybe it’s the history? Or maybe it’s simply the atmosphere of being in such a lively and colourful city, ready to embrace the magic!
But whatever it is, one thing is certain - the Pink Tutu has landed, and it’s ready to take on Rome! We’ll see what exciting discoveries are in store next week!
