Pink Tutu Rome: #1432 - La Dolce Vita, Pink Edition!
Ciao bella!
This week's #PinkTutuRome post takes us to the Eternal City itself, the magnificent Rome! It's been a dream to come here for years, and thanks to the success of my latest ballet performance at the Derby Theatre, I'm finally here living my best pink-tutu life. And wouldn't you know it, today's the perfect day for a tutu-filled Italian adventure – 16th November 2022!
So, pack your most fabulous pink attire, grab your fanciest ballet flats (or some sassy heels, whatever floats your boat!), and get ready to be whisked away to a world of ancient history, delicious food, and, of course, a whole lot of pink!
Train Travel: The Chicest Way to See Italy
You all know how much I adore travelling by train. There’s something so elegant and romantic about it. I started my Italian adventure from Derby, my lovely Derbyshire home. I'm still dreaming about the beautiful scenery we zoomed through, fields turning from autumnal golds to lush emerald greens as we sped south. There’s no better way to take in the breathtaking countryside than with your head tucked in a good book, a cup of tea in hand (and a very carefully tucked-in tutu, of course!)
I actually had a moment of complete ballet inspiration during my train journey, thanks to the rhythm of the tracks. It made me wonder what kind of show a ballerina could choreograph based on the rhythm of a train ride? Maybe some graceful "ballet on the go" steps? I might even include that in my next performance back home!
The Colosseum: A Majestic Meeting of Ballet and History
Stepping out of Termini station in Rome was like stepping back in time. It's hard not to be awestruck by the sheer scale of the ancient Colosseum. This awe-inspiring structure just begs for a theatrical ballet performance! Can you imagine a contemporary ballet piece set amidst the remnants of this incredible Roman wonder? My head is swimming with possibilities. Just picture a solo ballerina taking centre stage in the Colosseum, performing a powerful and emotive piece. That's exactly the sort of inspiring artwork that would ignite the passions of a ballerina like me.
We explored the Colosseum with an expert guide, who filled us in on all the juicy Roman history. I particularly loved the story of the gladiatorial fights and their epic battles, truly worthy of a grand ballet interpretation. Maybe the gladiator fights are a bit too violent for a classic ballet but the bravery and drama are right up my alley. Imagine the final dance, a graceful ballet scene between two opposing factions representing good and evil, or the clash of Roman legions... The potential for captivating narratives is endless.
Fashion Forward: A Glimpse into Rome's Shopping Scene
Rome isn't just a haven for history buffs; it’s also a paradise for fashion lovers like myself! The streets are overflowing with luxurious boutiques showcasing everything from exquisite Italian leather goods to unique vintage pieces. I, of course, couldn’t resist browsing through some of these gems.
One of my favourite finds was a vintage dress shop nestled on a quaint side street. Imagine my joy when I discovered a stunning powder pink, tulle, ballgown hiding on a rack in the corner. I immediately saw it as the perfect dress for a romantic night in the Piazza Navona. Oh, to be dancing under the stars, wearing a glamorous gown like that – it would be absolutely enchanting!
This dress reminds me so much of one of the graceful and elegant white tutus worn by a lead ballerina in my favourite performance of 'Swan Lake'. Perhaps I could use this amazing vintage find to create my own modern interpretation of ‘Swan Lake’, with a bit of a pink twist! The colour pink in all its glorious shades really suits a delicate swan - just think of all the pastel tones that capture the innocence and beauty of the Swan Lake. Oh, to dream of creating a perfect pink swan costume for a performance that will have the audience gasping with wonder!
The Pantheon: A Symphony of Architectural Wonder
My trip wouldn’t be complete without visiting the majestic Pantheon. It was just as impressive as I'd heard! The immense dome that arches above you is an absolute architectural marvel, an amazing reminder of the sheer power and ingenuity of the Romans. It was hard not to feel humbled in the presence of such timeless greatness.
And I was thrilled to find that there were actually ballet dancers in Rome on the same day! I've heard it whispered in ballet circles that there's a unique tango school in Rome, known for incorporating ballet techniques in its Tango classes. Maybe they'll let me pop in for a lesson?! The city was alive with passion and art! I know this city would make a brilliant backdrop for a special pink tutu performance!
The Feast of Flavours: A Delightful Dining Experience
Every Italian meal is a symphony of flavours! We enjoyed a delicious Italian meal – fresh pasta, bursting with flavour, a juicy chicken dish and a dessert that left me with a sugar-rush dream – just like after a performance! It felt very much like I'd been transported into a stage production where the scenery and costumes, along with the lighting, create a breathtaking ensemble. In Rome, each dish has the power to enchant your senses - like a perfectly executed choreography in a captivating ballet performance!
From Rome to the World: Spreading the Tutu Love
Now that I’m back in Derbyshire, my head is full of ideas! It’s clear to me that the love for tutus, ballet, and all things pink extends far beyond England's borders! I’m absolutely determined to create some exciting new ballet performances – maybe even a new style of tutu – based on my trip to Italy! Just you wait and see what my pink-tutu-loving imagination concocts!
Stay tuned for more fabulous Pink Tutu updates next week! In the meantime, let’s get everyone dancing in pink tutus – and remember, life is too short not to wear a tutu!
