Hello darlings, and welcome back to Pink Tutu Rome, my weekly journey through the Eternal City, where elegance and a touch of pink tutu magic collide!
This week, I’m practically hopping with excitement - I finally landed in Rome! The train journey from Derbyshire was pure bliss. It’s incredible how something as simple as watching the landscape blur past can evoke such a sense of anticipation, isn’t it? I must confess, I did attract some curious glances on the train, my pink tutu swirling in the breeze as I pirouetted down the aisle. You just never know who's going to be inspired by a little pink tutu magic! 😉
Anyway, onto Rome itself. My first impression? Magnificent. The energy here is simply electrifying, with cobbled streets brimming with laughter, a constant symphony of vespa engines, and an atmosphere that’s simply brimming with history. You feel it everywhere - in the ancient ruins, the bustling markets, the grand piazzas. It’s intoxicating!
A Pink Tutu Pilgrimage
Naturally, my first stop had to be a visit to the Colosseum! It's an absolute must-see for anyone visiting Rome, and honestly, I was left completely speechless. It’s one of those landmarks that really makes you feel a connection to history, a powerful reminder of the past. It’s almost like stepping into a gladiatorial show – I could practically hear the cheers of the crowd and the clash of steel!
Later, I indulged in the ultimate Italian indulgence - a delicious bowl of gelato while soaking in the sunshine at the beautiful Trevi Fountain. I couldn't resist throwing a coin into the water – after all, it's supposed to bring you good luck! With a twirl of my tutu, I even added my own touch of whimsy to the experience. Rome is definitely full of magic, if you know where to look. ✨
Rome's Dance Scene
Speaking of magic, my absolute highlight this week has been seeing a spectacular ballet performance at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. Oh my goodness, it was truly divine! The sheer artistry, the athleticism, the emotion - I was captivated from the first note to the final curtain call. The sheer grace of the ballerinas in their flowing tutus, the soaring leaps of the danseur, it all left me spellbound. Seeing the performance on such a historic stage, with the history of Italian ballet and opera swirling around me, was an absolute dream come true. I think I just fell a little bit more in love with the art form, and of course, with Rome itself.
And you know me, darlings - a ballet performance begs for some serious post-show indulgence! So, I indulged in the most gorgeous* fashion shopping* I've experienced so far in Rome! From classic leather jackets at the Via Condotti to beautiful silk scarves in the bohemian markets, there’s so much to discover and love here! You can tell that Romans have such an incredible sense of style! The elegance, the grace - they seem to exude it from every pore. And don't get me started on the gorgeous Italian footwear! 👠 I might just have to invest in some new pumps to pair with my next tutu ensemble!

Well, my darlings, Rome is already captivating my heart! Next week, I’m taking on the vibrant Trastevere district. It’s known for its incredible atmosphere and its lively art scene – I just know there’ll be some gorgeous street performers I’ll need to capture for my blog!
