Welcome to Pink Tutu Rome, post number 1578! It’s Wednesday, the 3rd of September, 2025, and I’m dancing my way through the Eternal City! As always, you can find this post, and every Wednesday adventure, on www.pink-tutu.com.
My trusty pink tutu is, of course, taking centre stage in my wardrobe this week. I think even the Roman gladiators would agree, there’s just something about a twirl that makes everything a little bit more magical!
From Derbyshire to Rome: A Journey by Rail
The journey to Rome felt like stepping into a storybook. I hopped aboard the Eurostar at St Pancras, a symphony of whizzing past scenery blurring in a romantic blur of green fields and quaint villages. I swear I could almost hear the music of Vivaldi filling the train carriage. Even a fellow passenger in a dashing red suit couldn't resist the call of the tutu – he gave me a beaming thumbs-up as he boarded the train. The man’s got taste!
I travelled to Rome via Paris, where I popped in for a spot of tea and scones at the oh-so-chic Maison de Couture – you just have to visit their gorgeous floral window displays. A touch of Parisian elegance for my Italian escapade!
Arriving in Roma: Dolce Vita
I arrived in Rome and the first thing that struck me? The smell! The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and pastries filled the air, a truly delicious welcome to this beautiful city. The sun shone down on me with all the warmth and generosity of an Italian grandmother, instantly putting me in a sunshine mood.
Pink Tutu in the Pantheon
One of the first places I headed to was the Pantheon, a masterpiece of Roman architecture. It was truly awe-inspiring! I spun under the breathtaking dome, letting the majestic beauty soak into my heart. Even the echoes of history seemed to resonate with the swish of my pink tutu.
Opera and Shopping: A Roman Symphony
The next day, I had a double dose of culture: I treated myself to the opera at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. A majestic evening with some incredible talent on stage! And I was fortunate to meet the lovely Italian dancer, Gabriella, backstage – she's helping me choose the perfect outfit for tomorrow’s visit to the Galleria Borghese!
Speaking of outfits, my afternoon was all about discovering the fashion treasures of Via Condotti. There were designer boutiques galore and I just had to stop by Valentino! It's safe to say I have been thoroughly indulging in my shopping therapy. A little something sparkly never hurts, especially when paired with a perfectly pink tutu, right?
Pasta, Pizza and Pink Tutu Perfection
There is nothing like experiencing Italian cuisine at its finest, and believe me, I’ve been living the good life in that department!
Here’s what you should try in Rome:
- Spaghetti alla Carbonara: So delicious, even the word feels like music! The creamy egg and pancetta sauce is absolutely divine, a real flavour bomb!
- Pinsa Romana: Not your average pizza, oh no! Pinsa is a unique sourdough-based flatbread. It’s made with a combination of rice, soya and wheat flour, which gives it a light and fluffy texture, almost like a cloud!
- Gelato: And of course, no Italian journey is complete without an exquisite scoop or two of gelato. They call it ‘Il Gelato,’ and I have to say it lives up to the hype – it's heavenly!
I paired each of my meals with a generous splash of sparkling pink Prosecco! To be fair, I don't think I've had a sip of anything else since I arrived! It feels like I'm in one of those glamorous old movie scenes. And my tutus are proving quite popular in the charming trattorias and cafes too, much to the amusement of the locals!
My Itinerary So Far
Now for the details! This is how I’m making the most of my time in Rome. Every Wednesday, you’ll be able to follow my daily escapades here on my blog:
- September 3rd: Pantheon and Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. (It's opera night!)
- September 4th: Galleria Borghese – I’m so excited about this one. Apparently, it's renowned for its exquisite art collection. Plus, Bernini's sculpture of Apollo and Daphne is a real beauty.
- September 5th: Colosseum. Who needs gladiator sandals when you've got a tutu, right?! Maybe I should see if anyone needs some tutus at the gladiatorial academy…
- September 6th: Trevi Fountain! A Roman must-do. Plus, a romantic stroll by the river for good measure!
- September 7th: A full day dedicated to a Roman culinary journey. Think pasta, pizza and tiramisu with breathtaking views – you know, the perfect Italian mix!
