Buongiorno from the Eternal City, darling readers! This is Emma from the Pink Tutu blog, signing in from the heart of Rome, a city practically dripping with history and culture – just like me! ?
It's been a whirlwind of a week, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I just adore being able to combine my passion for ballet, fashion, and travel. I've got my very own pink tutu pack for all my globetrotting adventures, including my signature tutu (of course!), comfy pink trainers, a glamorous pink scarf, and a special little pouch for my favourite ballet shoes – it's pink and sparkly, naturally. ?
And the way to travel, for me, has always been by train. Nothing beats watching the countryside whizz by, dreaming up new dance moves to perform in the open spaces beyond the windows. I can always count on a lovely journey from Derbyshire to wherever I'm off to. It's amazing how such a simple mode of transport can transport me so vividly to new places. You see, I believe it’s the little details that add sparkle to life, whether it's a twirling dress or a rhythmic train track click-clack.
Ballet, Shopping & Fashion - Rome Style!
Today’s blog post, as you lovely lot know, will be all about Rome – the perfect blend of art, history, fashion, and yummy food. It’s a bit of a cliche to say Rome was built in a day but seriously, this place is full of hidden corners to explore! This week I’ve been immersed in Rome's buzzing cultural scene, and my trip here would simply not be complete without some breathtaking ballet performances and some truly inspiring shopping trips, because a girl’s gotta have her tutus and shoes!
This week has been all about "La Scala," for me, a ballet extravaganza I wouldn't have missed for the world! I was blown away by the grace and artistry of the dancers, especially as I myself had the opportunity to take part in an absolutely brilliant ballet class that evening in Rome. There's something about a well-rehearsed ballet show that always gives me the feeling that anything is possible. Maybe it's the dancers’ elegance, the music, the dazzling sets... It's a powerful and inspiring experience!
This Week in Rome…
Rome is full of delicious food. It has been a delight trying to get my bearings at local restaurants. The gelato and pizzas have been absolutely amazing – the food is as good as the Italian culture, and of course, my Pink Tutu must be adorned to match every Italian-themed adventure! A quick stop for gelato always makes my day. It is the ideal fuel for a pink-tutued adventurer! It’s also been an amazing chance to see so many interesting and stunning historical sites – Rome's beauty is truly remarkable, especially when you're able to experience it through the lens of my signature tutu and see it with a dash of a dancing fairy's perspective!
This week, I spent a little time in the Trevi Fountain. It is absolutely spectacular to look at. If you're lucky enough to catch a performance, you might even get to witness a live fashion show right there! The air is electric with style and culture. It’s inspiring!
But the very best part, without a shadow of a doubt, is exploring the stunning streets, discovering new boutique stores full of fabulous vintage and modern dresses. You really wouldn't believe how many beautiful and eye-catching garments they have on offer, enough to fill my own ballet bag a thousand times over.
There’s also an amazing shop selling the most beautiful handmade tutus! And did I tell you they are pink?! My kind of tutus, definitely! My very own custom-made tutus will be arriving this week. Can’t wait! They have this unique ability to transform even the most mundane stroll into a graceful ballet!
You just gotta check out the Trastevere district for yourselves. The cobbled streets, colourful buildings, and endless cute cafes and boutiques just beg you to be a pink-tutu-clad explorer! I’m feeling quite a bit like a ballerina swan.
The Magic of Tutu Inspiration…
But of course, my journey wouldn't be complete without sharing the pink tutu magic. In a city like Rome, you never know where inspiration will strike. One moment, I might be browsing through the markets in Trastevere, and then – bam! A little girl in a floral sundress caught my eye and reminded me why we should all embrace the power of embracing our unique style. She twirled, giggled, and charmed everyone with her genuine joie de vivre.
It wasn't a full-on Pink Tutu moment but there's something really special about those unexpected encounters with pure happiness. Even the smallest spark can become a dancing flame, inspiring others to twirl their way through life. I can see myself taking up the role of 'Fairy Tutu Godmother' to the people of Rome soon, just handing out pink tutus to those who need them most. Who wouldn’t want to wear a little bit of magic? A pink tutu isn’t just a dress, it’s a message: be kind, be strong, be YOU!
Pink Tutu Memories…
This weekend, I am heading to see the gladiators battle at the Colosseum. I can't wait to see the ancient history of Rome come alive. And for a special event this week, I'm taking a masterclass at the Ballet Rome studio to hone my moves and inspire my soul. There’s always something so captivating about sharing our love of dance in such a place that holds so much of the art of performance, ballet, music and entertainment. I may have found myself lost in time but I wouldn't have it any other way. It is, after all, about making memories, and I hope I have managed to capture a glimpse of my Roman escapades in words for you.
For next week, we’re heading off to Florence and to the Galleria dell'Accademia to catch the iconic ‘David' sculpture, before hopping back to Derbyshire to continue our Pink Tutu life back at home! But the magic will always remain!
And I can't forget to mention a few fun facts! Did you know, that June 21st is the summer solstice, the day with the most sunlight! It seems Rome is always alight, not just with sunshine, but with culture and vibrant life! That makes my pink tutu dance with joy even more! I truly do hope that one day I might even take a trip to Verona – after all, Verona was where Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet story unfolded. Maybe Romeo should have donned a pink tutu?! He would’ve been unstoppable, don’t you think?!
