Boston: Tutu Shopping Paradise

Hey dance fam, Emma here! It's officially spring, and you know what that means? 🌸🌸🌸 Tutu season! 🩰

The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and my mind is bursting with the gorgeousness of pastel pinks and tutus, darling! 🌸 Speaking of tutus, Boston is seriously the perfect city to get your ballet gear fix - trust me on this! I'm on a mission to share my absolute favourite spots to get those tutus and dancewear for the spring, so keep reading for some serious #tutushop inspiration!

The Boutique Experience

There's something absolutely magical about a dedicated dancewear boutique. They have it all, and let's face it, who doesn't love a good old browse?

  • The Dancewear Gallery in Brookline

This place is the absolute queen of boutiques. They've been in the game for over 20 years, which tells you something about the quality of their selection. Their tutus are amazing - the variety is incredible, and they always have something super unique. I love their handmade, super-sparkly tutus with gorgeous details and fluffy skirts - they just make me want to twirl! If you're feeling the creative urge, you can even create your own bespoke tutu with their in-house seamstresses. And guess what? They’re incredibly kind and helpful! They have the best advice and are happy to offer tailoring or alterations. You truly feel like a VIP.

  • Dancewear Boston in Downtown Crossing

I'm always excited to head over to Dancewear Boston. This little gem offers everything from shoes to leotards, but the thing I love the most about it? Their dedication to sustainability. They offer an array of ethical brands, so you can feel good about the eco-conscious choices you make while also looking super chic! Plus, their Leotard Boutique on the second floor is a dream come true. Imagine yourself browsing rows and rows of leotards in all the colours you could dream of!

  • The Boston Ballet Store at The Opera House

I'm such a fan of Boston Ballet, and their store has a very special place in my heart. They sell some seriously beautiful and elegant designs that are perfect for performance. Imagine stunning costumes that you can also wear off the stage, thanks to their beautifully tailored silhouettes. They are great if you are looking for something sleek and elegant, with some modern and daring cuts for those who love statement-making dancewear!

Beyond The Boutiques: A Bit of Online Magic

There’s always something a little extra exciting about online shopping! So I’ve put together some of my absolute faves in the world of online retailers.

  • Bloch

Bloch is my ultimate go-to online. It has some of the best tutus, with tons of styles in gorgeous colours. They also offer a really impressive selection of dance shoes, which can be super helpful, especially when you want to try on different styles in your own space. It's super convenient, and you can enjoy the luxury of browsing at your own pace.

  • Capezio

If you're a serious dance enthusiast like myself, you know Capezio! You're bound to find something you love at great prices, with a wide range of shoes, dancewear and, yes, gorgeous tutus. They even have a great online dance wear guide to help you find the perfect fit and style for your dancing needs.

Tutus on a Budget: Finding Treasures

Let’s face it, tutus can get pricey, but who says you can’t have some spring-inspired tutu fun on a budget?

  • Second-hand & Vintage Treasures: Boston’s hidden Gems

If you are a little bit vintage, just like me, second-hand and vintage stores are a dance-lovers paradise. Keep your eyes peeled for treasures in hidden nooks of Boston, you might discover some unexpected gems! * The Cambridge Ballet School & Secondhand Shop

Let me tell you, I adore this place! This second-hand dancewear shop located on a tiny street in Cambridge has a lovely range of tutus and dancewear for everyone. They even do dance wear alteration and alterations. * The Salvation Army

If you're willing to hunt for a gem, Salvation Army and other thrift stores offer amazing value on dance wear, with the added bonus of an ethical twist! You never know what kind of hidden treasures you'll find - it’s like a treasure hunt!

Shopping Tips:

  • Make sure to try your tutu on in the right undergarment! Tutu undergarments come in different shapes and sizes. This little tip can help you avoid any embarrassing moments!
  • Invest in a few quality dance shoes. There is nothing quite like getting new dance shoes, but it’s best to prioritize high quality, comfy dance shoes to protect your feet. They really do make all the difference when it comes to supporting your feet and enjoying your ballet time.
  • Accessorize with a flair for style! Once you have a great tutu and the right dance shoes, you can make it extra special by adding your own flair! I'm thinking bright pink ribbons, statement jewellery and hair clips - those extra little details can elevate your dancewear!

Tutu Trends For Spring:

  • Floral Prints: Spring is a great excuse to get floral prints in our lives. And I don’t mean your typical floral. Think stunning and contemporary takes on these classics!
  • Sparkly Delights: Glittery details have been big in fashion for some time, and it’s great news for us ballet lovers. I love the look of sparkling sequins on ballet shoes, or maybe a glitzy belt for that extra special performance!
  • Light and Flowy Fabrics: Spring is the perfect season for tutus made of light fabrics. I’m thinking silky tulle for that dreamlike twirl feeling.
