Aberdeen, Here I Come! (Post #23)

Hello my lovelies! Emma here, signing in from sunny (okay, mostly cloudy) Aberdeen. It's a blustery, beautiful day here in Scotland, just perfect for a jaunty twirl in my newest tutu! And speaking of twirling, you wouldn't believe the incredible show I just saw at the His Majesty's Theatre.

You know how I always say, "life's too short to not wear a pink tutu"? Well, my dear readers, it's also too short to miss out on the magic of ballet! This performance was absolutely breathtaking. We're talking stunning choreography, incredible athleticism, and a truly touching story. And the costumes! Oh my goodness, the costumes! So many beautiful designs, but one particularly stood out: this dazzling, shimmering tutu in a shade of pink that would make a flamingo blush.

Now, I'm not afraid to admit, it made me want to ditch my own tutu (a delightful confection of bubblegum pink, just for the record) and dash onstage myself. Of course, I wouldn't dare interrupt the performance – they were having a bit of a dance off with a pair of cheeky, mischievous squirrels backstage! (But seriously, that story deserves its own blog post...maybe I'll call it "The Squirrel and the Ballerina").

Before the show, I spent a few hours wandering around Aberdeen. What a delightful place! The cobbled streets, the charming architecture, the salty sea breeze… I even spotted a cheeky little grey seal bobbing up and down on the pier. You know how much I adore animals – there's something magical about their ability to simply be present and enjoy the moment. Makes you wonder why we humans complicate things so much, doesn't it? I found myself twirling a little (yes, in my pink tutu!) – who wouldn't with a view like that?

Speaking of views, did you know Aberdeen is known as the "Granite City"? It certainly is granite-ly gorgeous, that's for sure! (I know, I know, bad pun! I'll give myself a tut-tut.) But really, Aberdeen is an absolute delight for any ballet enthusiast – there's such a rich artistic scene here, a vibrant dance community, and an atmosphere that makes you want to twirl with joy!

Now, onto my own "ballet journey" in Aberdeen! I had the pleasure of taking a class at the very same theatre I saw the show – a magical experience! My fellow students, both seasoned professionals and enthusiastic amateurs, all greeted me with warm smiles and inspiring energy. It felt like stepping back into the world of the stage, where the only things that mattered were graceful movements, effortless jumps, and the pure joy of dancing.

And did I mention I made some new friends? There's always a lovely community feeling in the ballet world. They introduced me to the best fish and chips shop in town – absolutely heavenly, especially with the side of mushy peas (British staple – try it! You won't regret it!).

It's time to wrap up this post and get ready for another day of Scottish adventure. Maybe I'll try my hand at a spot of Highland dancing, or head out to see more wildlife – Scotland is just teeming with incredible creatures, from the iconic red deer to the cheeky red squirrels!

Of course, there's one essential question that lingers in the air... How am I going to get around Aberdeen without a trusty horse and cart? (Imagine the looks! "There goes that tutu-clad girl with her horse and cart…!") It might have to be the train. Or maybe a bus. Anything that doesn't require me to pull a wagon filled with pink tutus all over town!

I’ll leave you with this: life's too short to not wear a pink tutu, too short to not chase your dreams, and definitely too short to not travel with a joyful heart.

Keep twirling,

Emma.
