Ilford Calling! Pink Tutu Adventures in the Home Counties 🩰

Hey, lovelies!

Emma here, back from a whirlwind trip to Ilford. It's Post number 28, and oh my, what an adventure it's been. Today, my pink tutu journey led me down a path paved with heritage, heritage that truly encapsulated everything I adore. And trust me, my tutu got a real workout!

For the uninitiated, Ilford is a charming corner of the Home Counties. It’s full of those old Victorian streets, red brick buildings, quaint pubs, and, get this, it has one of the most charming independent bookshops I’ve ever stumbled upon! Who needs a train when you’ve got independent bookstores?! This is a place that just draws you in with its quiet beauty and nostalgic charm.

So, what’s a ballerina to do in Ilford? Let’s get pink!

Firstly, it wouldn't be a true Emma adventure without a little ballet, right? Thankfully, Ilford is brimming with dance schools. Now, imagine my delight when I stumbled upon a little ballet studio with bright pink walls - it was like they had seen my heart's desire and manifested it into bricks and mortar! The atmosphere was electric, the tutus (all different shades of pink, of course) twirled in a delightful frenzy, and I instantly knew I’d be right at home.

Turns out they had a “drop-in” class – pure serendipity! After warming up with the other students (and a brief intro from a delightful, very pink-loving, instructor), I danced my little heart out. This is where the true fun started. You see, it was a mixed class – with people of all ages and skill levels. That’s one of my favourite things about ballet – the inclusivity, and how you don't have to be a seasoned pro to be part of the community. The other students welcomed me with open arms, and I quickly found myself mesmerised by the way the youngest dancers twirled with such joyful abandon.

After my session, it was time to indulge my inner romantic. There was a beautiful little cafe in a quiet side street. I tucked into a delicious cream tea - I couldn't resist - a touch of the English countryside right in Ilford. The whole scene was pure magic; a touch of pink lemonade and a pastel-hued floral bouquet just made it even better!

As the day continued, I felt a desire to stretch my legs and immerse myself in the charming heritage of Ilford. It was the perfect time for a horse ride. Ilford has this wonderful livery yard on the outskirts of town - now I love nothing more than to trot around the English countryside with a furry friend.

After some galloping around (and more importantly, plenty of time for reflection on the gorgeous scenery and all things pink), it was time to explore more. That's when the magical bookstore appeared – just off a quiet side street, with rows upon rows of captivating tales. Now, any bookworm knows – it's the perfect cure for post-ballet jitters.

With the sunset casting its golden hues on the town, I felt a warmth wash over me, an appreciation for the beauty in every little corner. This charming, eclectic mix of history, nature, and dance made for the perfect pink-tutu adventure.

So, Ilford, I must confess - you have won a place in my heart. And I promise, my dear Ilford, you will most definitely see me again soon, possibly in an even pinker tutu!

Stay tuned for more pink-tutu adventures, because this journey is far from over.

Until next time,

Emma x
