TutuBlog: Watford Wanderings 🩰

Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, back with you after a simply delightful trip to Watford. It was like a little ballet adventure tucked away in a charming little town!

As you know, I'm a big believer in embracing life's whims and adding a little sprinkle of pink magic everywhere I go, so it was a no-brainer to rock my favourite purple tutu on this trip. (It's not quite pink, but let's be honest, I have a penchant for all things pastel.) The look was totally on-point for a day of exploring Watford's enchanting backstreets and grabbing afternoon tea at a charming café with lace doilies and delicate floral arrangements.

My journey to Watford, like many a true ballet fan, began at the railway station. Now, I know some of you are terrified of train journeys – shudder – but there’s something absolutely magical about a chugging train and a good book, especially when the carriage window reveals glimpses of picturesque English countryside. I'm pretty sure that's where my love for ballet came from – all those visions of sweeping landscapes inspiring visions of swirling tutus.

Once in Watford, I spent the afternoon wandering through its charming back streets. Watford has that quintessential British small town feel - those sweet little boutiques full of quirky knick-knacks and tea rooms that seem to have stopped in time. I couldn't help but notice the locals' warm smiles and cheery greetings, which filled me with such a sense of joy! It was a breath of fresh air, honestly, after all those dreary faces in the big city!

Of course, no trip to Watford is complete without a visit to The Harlequin, a beautiful performing arts centre right in the heart of the town. While there wasn’t a ballet performance happening that evening (much to my chagrin), they were hosting an incredibly exciting talk about the history of theatre in the region. Honestly, if there was one thing that rivaled my love of ballet, it was history, so I practically devoured every fascinating tidbit shared about those glorious theatres of the past. The passion and knowledge of the speakers truly had me feeling inspired and energised - so much so that I ended up purchasing a couple of historical books from their little bookstore afterwards.

Later, as evening fell, I treated myself to a glorious hot chocolate (complete with cream and sprinkles, of course!) at a charming café and indulged in a beautiful novel about a ballerina's adventures in Paris. You see, I have this thing about matching my readings to my destinations – a bit of light reading with a ballerina protagonist seemed like the perfect way to end my Watford adventure.

The best thing about a Watford visit is that you can truly savour every single minute of it. You’re not battling hordes of tourists, no one is rushing you, and the pace of life is slower. Just like a graceful plié, it’s all about finding your perfect balance – the gentle pace and simple pleasures of life.

Oh, and let's not forget the horses. It’s no secret that I’m utterly enchanted by horses. I believe they represent freedom, grace, and a gentle connection to nature. So, it was only natural that I had to go for a little gallop on a beautiful horse, just to savour the wind in my hair and feel that sublime sense of pure freedom.

By the way, for all you Derbyshire darlings out there, I’ve heard whispers about a stunning horse riding centre tucked away in the rolling hills. It's said to be absolutely breathtaking, with incredible trails and, wait for it… horse-drawn carriages! I'm practically foaming at the mouth with excitement to visit and report back, but it'll have to wait until after the biggest event on my ballet calendar: The Royal Ballet's Gala performance.

You're not going to believe this, my darlings, but it's a special night – I've been lucky enough to get my hands on tickets for the royal box! Yes, you heard right, the royal box! I'm so thrilled! Imagine, I’ll be practically rubbing shoulders with the Queen of England herself. A dream come true, truly! But don't worry, I'm already planning the perfect outfit - think champagne tulle, diamond embellishments, and, of course, the quintessential touch of pink…

This brings us to my mission, darlings. Remember how I always tell you: “Every girl needs a pink tutu.” I firmly believe that wearing a tutu can be liberating – a statement of inner beauty, elegance, and the courage to express yourself authentically. So, whether it’s a purple tutu like mine, a hot pink one for a bold statement, or a classic pastel pink to reflect your graceful soul, I urge you to embrace your inner ballerina.

Oh, and don’t forget about the ballet. I know I keep raving on about it, but it's such a gift to the world. The fluidity, the grace, the dedication of the dancers... It's a powerful expression of passion, artistry, and the human spirit! I can’t urge you enough to see at least one performance live, but if you can't make it, at least try a ballet class! You'll be amazed by the feeling of freedom and elegance you find within yourself. Trust me, darling, the transformation will be… magical!

So, let’s keep spreading the tutu love, embrace life’s beauty, and inspire each other to find our inner ballerina!

Stay tuned, lovelies. Until next time, Emma xx
