TutuBlog #116: Barking with a Cyan Tutu!
Oh, hello lovelies! Emma here, back with another installment from my fabulous life. I've just returned from a whirlwind trip to the utterly delightful seaside town of Barking - and trust me, darling, it was wild!
Before I start, can we just agree that today's outfit was a total slay? My glorious cyan tutu (courtesy of that darling shop in Notting Hill, "Swans Down") twirled just perfectly with the seaside breeze. I may have gotten a few confused glances from the locals, but hey, I was channelling that ballerina-by-the-beach energy.
Now, Barking was everything I hoped for and more. It's so much more than just a commuter town - it has a real charm. The bustling market, the quaint shops, the salty sea air... all topped off by some absolutely splendid chips!
Speaking of splendid… I popped in to the local theatre, the Barking Town Hall, where they had a fantastic production of Sleeping Beauty on. Now, I am a total sucker for anything classic, and this ballet was no exception. They even had a few of those glorious "Pink Lake" swans you always see in documentaries – the costumes were absolutely fabulous, all swirling pink and white and sparkling under the spotlight. It gave me so much inspiration! I swear, I could almost smell the scent of fresh roses in the air, as if the ballet was transporting us to some magical world of fairy-tale romance!
Speaking of enchantment, darling… my favourite part of the trip was a visit to the nearby Essex Wildlife Trust Reserve. I don't know what it is about spotting wildlife, but it just fills me with joy! The reserve was full of birds – sparrows, robins, magpies, even a flash of kingfisher by the pond. It made me dream of adding a few more birds to my "Tutu-fied Animal Alphabet." (Yes, I'm writing a book – a ballet-inspired children's alphabet featuring my favorite animals, all dressed up in pink tutus!). It’s almost finished – but we all know that things always take a little longer in the fashion world.
Travel Tips:
The trip to Barking was by train – as always! Yes, my darling, I'm a railway enthusiast through and through. There's nothing like a leisurely journey by train to inspire new dance moves! The carriage windows were my personal "dance studio", watching the landscape whizz by while I practiced my relevés and pirouettes. But you know what? Sometimes you just need a bit of adventure. And darling, you wouldn't believe what happened… on my return journey I hopped off the train at a station called Chelmsford and discovered the most fantastic stables just by the tracks. Now, you all know that I've been yearning to finally experience the thrill of riding, and these lovely stables seemed destined to be my stepping stone! The owners were a delightful couple, both utterly smitten with horses. (You'd think they had been created specifically for that majestic mane of hair!), and before you could say "curtsy" I was nestled on a beautifully chestnut steed.
Yes, dear readers, the air felt different up there, the view spectacular. A world of possibility seemed to stretch out before me. All I could think of was how the horse would be the perfect companion on a "pink tutu road trip"!
Speaking of "pink tutu road trip", wouldn't that be the perfect theme for my next adventure? I could wear a new tutu for every stop, maybe even some feather boas or glittering sequins. Maybe a "tutu picnic" or a "pink tutu ballet in the park"? I think the world needs more of that! More magic, more fun, more... PINK!
Before I end, darlings, let's talk about your ballet dreams. This week, I challenge you to go pink, go fabulous! Wear a tutu, tie your hair with a pink ribbon, or even just wear pink nail polish! Then, take a dance class, practice at home, or just swing around your living room.
Ballet is more than just twirling; it's a form of self-expression, of unleashing that inner fairy. Don’t let the “world” put you in a box. You were born to fly, so twirl, twirl, twirl!
Until next time, darlings, stay glamorous!
Love,
Emma
