Highbury: A Tutu Tale, Post 241

Hello my darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad blogger, Emma, back from a whirlwind trip to the beautiful city of London! Oh, how I do love the charm of a bygone era! I practically felt like I was stepping straight into a Jane Austen novel. It was absolutely magical!

Today's post is a double-whammy of a London escapade: ballet AND shopping! And who can resist a good dose of both? Certainly not this girl!

From Derbyshire to London on the Rails

I left my little haven in Derbyshire on the morning train. The world whizzing by, a blur of green fields and red brick houses, all with the satisfying clatter of the train tracks beneath us. I simply cannot get enough of train journeys! There's something so utterly romantic and adventurous about travelling by rail, isn't there?

Anyway, I packed my little black suitcase full of ballet kit (don't you worry, my precious pink tutu had its own designated space!) and, most importantly, my favourite lipstick for a touch of that "English Rose" beauty. (It's a secret! I'll have to do a post on my makeup essentials someday...)

The Grand Highbury Ballet

My London destination was the gorgeous, historical Highbury Theatre! They are having a run of "The Nutcracker" which I just HAD to see. They did the most incredible "Spanish Dance" scene - the costumes were a veritable explosion of flamenco-inspired swirls and fringes, just my kind of thing! It almost made me want to hop onto the stage and do a pirouette right there! Of course, I had to pick out my perfect pink tutu for the occasion: A gorgeous powder pink number with a ruffled skirt and a sweetheart neckline, and a ribbon sash to tie in a little bow! It just screamed "graceful ballet enthusiast!" and who better to be a ballet enthusiast than yours truly? It was such a lovely theatre, with high, vaulted ceilings and a stage adorned with crimson velvet curtains. Oh, it really felt like I had stepped right into the golden age of theatre!

A Little Ballet Break, and Shopping!

The whole experience was just enchanting, really. The beautiful ballet, the history of the theatre, even the smell of the buttery popcorn (my guilty pleasure) was all part of it! After the performance, I popped into one of those quintessential London tea rooms for some yummy afternoon tea. Honestly, the finger sandwiches were delicious. I paired them with some beautifully brewed black tea, a quintessential British tradition I couldn't resist. And then, a girl's gotta shop, right? I couldn't leave London without getting my hands on a few treats.

My Pink Obsession Continues

I headed straight to a lovely little shop near the theatre. They had the most amazing display of delicate pink accessories! From delicate, pastel pink jewelry to pink scarves adorned with peacock feather prints! It was a girly girl's paradise. I ended up with a sparkly, baby pink beret, to match my favourite pink tutu, and a floral pink broach with a tiny little pearl centre. You know, because every outfit deserves a touch of bling, and, what's more blingtastic than pink? I cannot wait to show off my finds back home. They'll look absolutely fab paired with some elegant black boots or a fitted, pastel pink skirt!

Ballet on the Streets? Yes Please!

It wasn't all about shopping and high culture, though! There were other adventures to be had. Did I mention the delightful people watching opportunities in the City? And how charmingly old-fashioned everything felt? Oh, how I wished I had an antique carriage instead of a black cab to explore in! But you can't always have it your way, can you? And, that's okay. I have a new goal - to get my local community interested in Ballet! What could be better than ballet street performances? Just picture it: a park, with picnic blankets, lovely music playing softly and... my amazing, ballet crew and me all in our pink tutus! Imagine how fabulous that would be!

Next Week: The Secret of My Pink Tutu!

And finally, a big promise: I am SO going to give you a glimpse into the magic that goes into designing my pink tutus. That's right, I've finally decided to tell you the story of my amazing "Pink-Tutu Paradise", where every girl's dream tutu can come true! Next week's post is going to be full of photos, sketches and lots and lots of pink - be prepared for an absolutely fabulous, totally pink and fluffy extravaganza, you guys! I cannot wait to share it with all of you! Stay tuned! Until next time, my darlings, don't forget to add a little pink to your world and live out your "pink tutu" dreams! And as always, remember: ballet is for everyone.

Lots of love and pink tutu wishes,

Emma
