Consett Calling! (Post #246) 🩰💖

Hello my lovely tutu-twirling darlings! It's Emma here, writing to you from the charming little town of Consett in County Durham. I just adore travelling around the UK, taking in all the sights and getting my pink fix, and today’s adventure took me by train to the North East for a rather fabulous ballet performance.

I must say, the journey up was truly delightful. I settled into a first class carriage with a hot cuppa, a delicious scone (with jam, of course), and my trusty copy of “The Ballet Journal”. I'm not one to be caught dead on a train without a good book – something with beautiful photographs and insightful essays, because, you know, a little bit of ballet culture goes a long way! Speaking of which, I'm trying to squeeze in a little ballet practice wherever possible – my tiny, foldable barre comes with me everywhere. It’s all about making sure those pirouettes are perfect, no matter where I am!

As I was chugging along through the picturesque English countryside, I couldn't help but admire the stunning landscape - all those lush green fields, sheep grazing contentedly, and even a few wild rabbits hopping around. I have such a soft spot for animals, especially when they are enjoying a lovely sunny day like this!

Then, Consett greeted me with open arms (or rather, cobbled streets and welcoming pubs). The place had a real historical charm, which I adore! It even had a rather wonderful bakery where I indulged in a giant pink macaroon! Oh, how my love affair with all things pink continues!

Tonight was the performance of "Giselle" by the Consett Ballet Theatre. And you know me – I wouldn’t miss a live ballet performance for the world! It was set in the stunning local Town Hall and had all the magical elements that a classical ballet could wish for – haunting music, captivating storytelling, and, of course, the amazing dance routines. My favourite bit, however, had to be when Giselle loses her mind in despair, turning into a wilis - the ballet world’s answer to vengeful ghost. Oh, those haunting dances and expressive choreography were something truly special.

Of course, what else can a true pink-tutu devotee do but show off a bit in a gorgeous ballet costume before a show like this? You just have to be prepared for the world’s stage, darling! I took a little twirl in my new pale pink tulle number with delicate embroidery – it's perfect for those quick "insta-ballet" moments! You all know how much I love a good twirl and sharing the love of all things dance on my social media pages!

But enough about my glamorous outfits! It wasn’t all about tutus and pink today. The town of Consett also provided a delicious slice of history – an ancient ruined castle on a hill that I just HAD to explore! I love me some good history and, of course, some historical castles, so I made sure to explore this gorgeous example with its majestic battlements and whispering tales of bygone days. It made for the most fabulous post-ballet adventure, don't you think? There were even some cute bunnies running around near the ancient ruins – such a bit of whimsy in a day full of pink, ballet, and history.

The whole trip left me with a full heart (and stomach! those macarons!) – and that feeling you get when you’ve had a wonderfully fun-filled, creative, and romantic day. You know, the one that leaves you all fuzzy on the inside? I even got to buy some sweet vintage ribbons for my next creation at the quirky local haberdashery. You never know when you might need a new pink tutu in your life, darling! The hunt for more pink ballet attire is never truly over, even if the journey takes me to a rather sweet corner of the north! And, if you know of any good, quaint shops, don’t be shy about dropping a comment below – I’d love to hear all about your discoveries!

Until next time, stay sassy, stay colourful, and always keep twirling! 💖

Love,
Emma.
