TutuBlog #259: London Calling! 🩰💕
Hey darlings! Emma here, back from a whirlwind trip to London, and oh my goodness, what a fantastic adventure it was! The city never fails to leave me feeling inspired and utterly enchanted. You wouldn't believe the amazing sights I saw, the brilliant ballet performances I attended, and the pink delights I stumbled upon. It's definitely time to dive in and tell you all about it, because it wouldn't be a proper #TutuBlog without sharing the sparkle! ✨
This time, my journey started with a grand adventure aboard a train straight from the heart of Derbyshire, where the hills are so green and the air is so crisp. My carriage was perfectly appointed, all plush velvet seats and chinking china teacups, a little haven for a tutu-loving gal like me to prepare for my big city escapade. I love how the journey by train always allows me to feel the magic of the countryside slipping away, revealing the urban skyline, full of towering buildings and secrets waiting to be explored.
Upon arriving in London, the city embraced me with a symphony of honking taxis and vibrant streetlights, buzzing with the excitement of a million stories unfolding. My first port of call was, of course, the majestic Royal Opera House. They had a production of Swan Lake that absolutely took my breath away. I adore this classic ballet for its dramatic choreography, with those iconic leaps and dramatic dips. Plus, it gives me the perfect opportunity to get lost in the fairytale world of Swan Queen and the dashing Prince. The dancers were so elegant, their movements like whispers of silk, their leaps like birds taking flight. I swear, I saw a couple of feathers fluttering around the stage afterwards!
My evening in London wouldn't be complete without indulging in a delicious dinner, so I wandered through the beautiful streets, dodging the throngs of tourists, and landed in a charming bistro tucked away in a quiet side street. The scent of freshly baked bread wafted through the air, and the warm glow of the lights inside made me feel all cosy and content. I treated myself to a divine salad with the freshest, most succulent tomatoes I've ever tasted, accompanied by a glass of crisp Pinot Grigio. It was the perfect ending to a fantastic evening, the delicious flavours lingering long after I had polished off my plate.
The next morning, after a night's sleep in a quaint bed and breakfast with lace curtains and a view of the Thames, I awoke to the sound of birdsong. Now, anyone who knows me knows I adore all creatures, big and small, but I must confess I have a soft spot for those elegant and majestic creatures: horses! With London's beautiful parks and open spaces, what better way to explore than on horseback? I donned my best riding trousers, with a touch of pink at the hem, naturally, and my crisp, white riding shirt.
A local stable kindly lent me a beautiful bay mare with a mane like spun silk. It felt amazing to be galloping through Hyde Park, the wind whipping through my hair and the sun on my face. I could practically feel my worries melt away as I rode through the leafy paths, spotting families picnicking on the green lawns and the graceful curves of swans gliding across the Serpentine. It's always amazing to get to connect with nature, especially in a bustling city like London.
Now, London wouldn't be a London adventure without a spot of shopping, and trust me, I did my due diligence! The day was spent flitting between vintage boutiques in Notting Hill, with their quaint shop fronts and endless rows of beautiful dresses, hats, and handbags, to the grand department stores in the heart of London. I emerged clutching an adorable pink polka dot scarf with the most delightful bow, which will look absolutely perfect with a simple white top and my favourite tutu. It's all about those finishing touches, darling!
Of course, the ultimate aim of my shopping expedition was a tutu! The only problem is that London has SO many lovely boutiques, with SO many exquisite tutus. In the end, after a full afternoon of browsing, I came home with three, each one a complete delight: a classically elegant white tulle with pink ribbon, a fluffy pink one with feathered trims for an extra touch of whimsical drama, and a sassy, sequined pink number that I know will set the stage alight for any performance!
Back to ballet! Now, the heart of any London ballet adventure for me has to be Sadler’s Wells. It's a gem tucked away in the vibrant heart of Islington, known for its diverse mix of contemporary and classical ballet. It felt a bit like stepping back in time to the Victorian era with its ornate balconies and dramatic staircases, while at the same time feeling as modern as can be with the edgy and inspiring productions it puts on.
That evening, I saw a thrilling modern ballet about love, loss, and the power of resilience. The choreography was breathtaking, all twisting shapes, and leaps that defied gravity. I could barely contain myself throughout the performance, my emotions shifting with each stunning move. There were moments I felt myself almost on stage with them, mirroring their steps, as the music swirled and flowed around me, washing over my body with pure magic.
Afterwards, the beautiful, twinkling lights of the theatre gave me such a glow that I just knew this was a memory to cherish.
As my London escapade neared its end, I was already yearning to be back. London has such a unique energy and it has the magic of making even a tutu-loving, Derbyshire gal feel like a ballerina dancing in a spotlight. So many new ideas, dreams and memories are swirling inside my mind as I write this. I'm feeling inspired, energized, and more determined than ever to encourage everyone I know to embrace their inner dancer!
Don’t forget, my dear Tutu friends, you don’t have to be a ballerina to wear a pink tutu. Every day is an opportunity to dance through life with a touch of whimsy and grace!
Stay sparkling, Emma
