Sloughing it off in a Purple Tutu!

Post 302

Hey lovelies!

It's your girl, Emma, and I'm back with another thrilling post from my travels! This time I've swapped the Derbyshire dales for the hustle and bustle of Slough. That's right, I'm in the heart of Berkshire! Don't worry, I'm not going to spend the whole time talking about industrial estates and roundabouts, though there are plenty of those in Slough too. 😉 I'm on a mission to inject some colour and creativity into the town, starting with my dazzling purple tutu!

As I was boarding the train this morning, I was trying to choose the perfect playlist for my journey. Do you think it's "Bohemian Rhapsody" to get me feeling sassy or something a bit more ethereal like "Clair de Lune" to tap into my ballerina spirit? I ended up opting for a mix of both - it’s got to be a mix of powerful and graceful, right? And what better way to get into character than with a splash of glitter and a pink lip? 💄

Speaking of colour, my new purple tutu has got to be the star of this post! I mean, come on, it’s not just purple – it's electric, cosmic, shimmering purple. I practically sparkled my way through the station, feeling like I could burst with happiness. It felt good to be bold, to stand out from the crowd in my whimsical attire!

The train journey was surprisingly pleasant. I even had a delightful chat with an elderly gentleman who was captivated by my tutu. He confessed to being a keen tap-dancer in his younger days! We reminisced about the golden era of musicals and he even offered to teach me a few steps. He said I should be an entertainer because my “sparkle” lit up the whole carriage! So there you have it, ladies and gents! If even a seasoned tap-dancer thinks you’re captivating in your tutu, you know you’re doing something right!

Of course, my trip to Slough was not all about chit-chat and carriage entertainment. My main mission was to check out the local theatre. Slough's "The Curve" looks like an awesome venue, with a dynamic facade and a programme jam-packed with diverse performances, from musical theatre to stand-up comedy. The staff were so friendly and welcoming too.

I'm always impressed by how theatres everywhere are bringing ballet to the wider audience, especially the community performances. This really resonated with me, after all, ballet is all about teamwork and expressing yourself through movement, so why not share the joy? I know it might seem daunting to jump into the world of ballet, especially for those who’ve never tried it. But it's a welcoming world! You don't have to be perfect to be part of it. We've all got to start somewhere, right? Even a dancing grandma can steal the show with some great moves and passion. 😉

And you never know, I might even get to see a fantastic ballet performance while I'm here. That's my next mission, finding the perfect ballet show. I have high hopes for the "Sleeping Beauty" production later this month! Just picturing the magnificent sets and costumes – sighs dreamily.

Of course, any trip wouldn't be complete without some exploring! Even in Slough! (Remember, even the busiest places have hidden gems!) So far, I've already stumbled across a fantastic independent bookstore and a little vintage cafe where I had the most scrumptious, pink-themed latte. It had tiny pink marshmallows, swirling like clouds in my cup. It was almost too beautiful to drink. But alas, the sugary-sweet taste won me over in the end. 😋

But, back to our ballet theme. How about a little fun fact? Did you know that the graceful swan, a symbol of elegance and beauty, features prominently in the ballet repertoire? These magnificent birds have fascinated humans for centuries with their graceful movements. And just like ballet, it's their movements and interactions that mesmerize us. Isn’t it wonderful how wildlife and ballet intertwine? Who knew?

Anyways, you know I'm a big fan of venturing beyond the norm, and trying something new. It might even be a crazy idea, like attempting to teach the squirrels in the local park some basic ballet moves. Who knows? They might love it, maybe I'll even start a ballet class for them – or at least, inspire them with my graceful presence!

Stay tuned for my next update where I'll reveal the latest on my squirrel ballet class. I might even get you a glimpse of the “Sleeping Beauty” production!

Love,

Emma
