Hove: Tutu-ing around the Coast, Blog Post #319

Hello my darlings!

It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing, ballet-obsessed blogger, reporting live from the seaside town of Hove!

The sun is shining, the seagulls are squawking, and my little pink tutu is twirling in the breeze. Oh, it feels so good to be out of the Derbyshire drizzle and breathing in the fresh sea air. And it just so happens that Hove is brimming with a kind of magic that makes you want to dance.

I got here this morning, arriving at the charming Hove Station with my trusty tote bag filled with everything a glamorous ballet ballerina needs on the go – a pink ribbon for my hair, a pair of elegant ballet shoes, and, of course, my faithful notebook and pen for all the fabulous inspiration I’m sure to encounter today. I might just try and take some notes using my toes this time...

Before I even set foot in this seaside paradise, my intuition told me I needed to ride a horse today. You know I just can’t resist a good equine adventure, especially when the sun is shining. Luckily, just around the corner from the station, I found a quaint livery yard offering some beautiful chestnut steeds for a leisurely ride. Canter through the coastal fields? Absolutely! A quick change from ballet shoes into jodhpurs, a helmet securely fastened, and off I went!

Let me tell you, there’s nothing quite like feeling the wind whipping through your hair, your legs lengthening in the stirrups, and the feeling of pure exhilaration as the horse responds to your every command. I'm sure even a ballerina as seasoned as myself doesn’t often get to experience this kind of wild beauty! I truly believe riding can bring a special kind of grace and balance into your life - just ask my ballet teacher, Miss Harriet. She loves to talk about the incredible harmony of the two disciplines.

After my exhilarating gallop, it was time to get back into my favourite footwear – my trusty ballet pumps, of course! The aroma of fish and chips from a quaint seaside eatery lured me towards the pier. Ah, the quintessential seaside experience!

I ordered a classic cod and chips (with a generous sprinkle of pink Himalayan salt – yes, even fish and chips can be a little glam!), watched the surfers gracefully gliding on the waves, and just soaked in the atmosphere. It made me think about the sheer artistry of ballet. Every move, every twirl, is like a carefully choreographed dance on the stage of life.

Then it was on to the Brighton Theatre Royal for a ballet performance. The grandeur of the theatre is always so awe-inspiring, even when the red carpets aren't rolled out! This evening's show was a contemporary ballet piece, full of abstract movements, daring leaps, and a smattering of that exquisite dramatic flair that pulls at the heartstrings. Let’s just say, there was a small teardrop (of pure joy) on my cheek at the end of the final act.

I couldn't help but wonder – why not bring ballet out onto the streets? Let the wind become your stage, the city your backdrop. Imagine the energy, the beauty, and the sheer delight of impromptu ballet routines happening everywhere! Maybe it's my inner ballerina talking, but it just feels so natural. Imagine the joyful chaos, the surprised faces, and the infectious laughter. Imagine… oh, why imagine when you can do it?

This little trip to Hove has been the perfect dose of ballet inspiration! And of course, it’s no coincidence that my pink tutu looks absolutely divine against the backdrop of the seaside. Every little twirl feels so much more magical!

But let's get to the serious part - how can you bring a little pink tutu magic into your lives? First, step into a ballet class, dear readers. Even just one lesson. Trust me, you'll rediscover your love of movement, rediscover your love of music, and maybe, just maybe, rediscover your inner ballerina!

I know the first steps can feel a bit daunting, but believe me, the feeling of achievement, of confidence, of sheer exhilaration when you nail that perfect plié is worth every single stumble. Don’t worry, we all start somewhere – and maybe even get a bit bruised along the way, like I have this morning when a particularly excitable pigeon mistook my toe-shoes for a tasty treat.

And if a full-on ballet class is too much right now, don't be shy! Embrace the little things. Dance like no one is watching, because truly, every day is a performance, even if it's just for yourself. Embrace the magic, embrace the colour pink, and embrace the joy of ballet. Let’s all spread a bit of ballet cheer, shall we?

As always, stay fabulous, my darlings. Remember to check out www.pink-tutu.com for daily updates on my travels and my adventures in the world of ballet. And feel free to share your own ballerina moments, whether you’re at the theatre, at your ballet class, or just twirling your tutu in your living room.

Keep those tutus twirling!

Love, Emma
xx
